Breakfast wasn't included so we didn't expect it! Location was perfect for us as it was near the town but not too noisy. Parking was very convenient.

Staff didn’t seem to understand the meaning of accessible room. I spoke to staff prior to arrival asking specifically about accessible room and they suggested I change by booking to a particular room which I did but it was not an accessible room. On arrival staff couldn’t quite understand the meaning of a walk in shower but eventually after a lot of communication I discovered every room had a shower over bath. To make up for it the owner offered half price food on the first night. However he did need reminding of this on the night.

The room and ensuite were lovely. Both were clean. The bed was very comfortable. Two chairs, a desk and a wardrobe area, were provided. There were thoughtful finishing touches in the bedroom (such as two bottles of water and plenty of tea and coffee) and the bathroom (nice smelling Hand-wash, bodywash and shampoo, a scented candle and a reed diffuser). We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was really delicious, the serving staff were very polite and attentive at this time. The room was cosy as, the towel heater in the ensuite was on the whole time (but there isn't a means of controlling it by yourself).

I really really wanted to like this place. It's one of the cheapest places to stay close to York, and as stated above, the actual room was great (as is the restaurant). However, our stay was ruined because we were not able to sleep due to the noise. I know we were the only guests in the hotel that night because when I arrived the staff handed me a piece of paper with my full name and room code on without me telling them who I was (only that I'd booked a room) and because our car was the only one in the car park when we left. Therefore, I know the noise during the night came from the staff, who must either live there or occasionally stay in the spare rooms. My partner and I tried to sleep at 11 pm, but there was continued door slamming, banging and loud talking/ shouting, as well as frequent beeping of a loud microwave consistently up until 5am. It's such a shame that this disrespectful behaviour ruined what would have otherwise been a pleasant and quiet stay. It is also worth noting that none of the electrics in the room have been PAT tested since 2017, which is a fire hazard and probably violates health and safety legislations! I'm disappointed to report that you'e safer spending that extra £20 and staying somewhere else.

The restaurant downstairs was fantastic we had an evening meal and it was beautiful and the staff were fantastic.
