"Schönes, sauberes B&B mit sehr guter Ausstattung."

9.0

"Disappointing."

5.0

Location and views were amazing! Breakfast was great!

Bathroom was very small and unable to move around. No privacy in bathroom if someone else in room with you. Beds were very uncomfortable. When we arrived door unlocked but no one to check us in. Had to call and was told to go to different hotel up the road.

It is situated in a wonderful location on the waterfront and is very convenient for the town and the start of the Cabot Trail. The house is furnished in the old style with modern adaptations to make it more comfortable. There is a lovely lounge with views of the harbour and wooden chairs to relax on the lawn. Breakfast was satisfying with cereals, bread and muffins. The owners seemed helpful.

The bed seemed rather small for a queen size.

"Great starting point for touring the Cabot Trail"

10.0

Built in 1861, the Dunlap Inn is a small 5-room B&B located on the shores of Bras d'Or Lake in the Cape Breton Island town of Baddeck, NS. We stayed two nights in a second floor street-view room with a private bath (although there were some lake views out the side window in the room}. One important note: You must check-in at the Telegraph House about a quarter mile down the road to get your Dunlap Inn room keys. Our room had a double bed and twin bed, two chairs and small side table. The bathroom, that was very likely a closet before it was transformed, had a toilet sink and decent sized shower, with a sliding pocket door for privacy. Downstairs included a breakfast room and a bright common living room overlooking the lake with sliding glass doors that opened to a porch from which you could watch the activity on the lake and enjoy the view of Kidston Island and its lighthouse. One day, we actually saw a seal bobbing around in the lake, which they say is a fairly common sight. Outside, a grassy lawn gave way to a dock on the water offering comfortable Adirondack Chairs. Parking is available for 5 cars onsite. The Continental Breakfast included, bagels, breads, fresh fruit, cheese, a baked item, hard-boiled eggs, cold cereal, granola, yogurt, juice and coffee/tea, and was served from 8-10am. The village of Baddeck is fairly compact. From the inn you could take a 5-minute walk to the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, which is worth a visit, and several restaurants and shops in town. Tom's Pizza was very good, as was the Highwheeler Cafe & Bakery with fresh baked goods and their own fresh-roasted coffee. The Main Street Restaurant and the Freight Shed are two full-service, sit-down restaurants with nice menus, although we didn't eat at either. About 15 minutes down the road are the Big Spruce Brewing Company (Eastern Canada's only on-farm organic craft brewery} and another great cafe called the Herring Choker Deli in Nyanza. Don't let the name fool you. The homemade sandwiches and baked goods were outstanding! We enjoyed the inn and met some interesting people who were all there to experience the Cabot Trail. Definitely, a quaint, quiet place to spend a couple nights.
