Going home

The breakfast in the morning was very good, fresh and plentiful. We were the only guests and still a superb spread was provided. The cooked breakfast was prompt and excellently cooked. The evening meal prior was excellent home cooking too. The pub is a traditional pub, frequented by friendly locals. The room was clean warm and well provided. It was homely rather than modern and 'sleak'. The location was very special by a historic bridge and opposite a magnificent Norman church.

We would have preferred an earlier breakfast, but in the end it did not matter and the service was prompt.

Location great for us and walking. The water was piping hot and a massive bath, staff and locals friendly.

Very cold, arrived before our room was ready, the pubs log fire was lit but could not take off our coats. Our rooms heating did not come on until 5pm, we did have a separate heater for the room but soo cold.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The beds were really comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring we had a well heated room to dry our things after a wet walk. The location is great and the breakfast too. What a great pub and the perfect stop on our Coast to Coast walk.
