Part of our room was long and thin - old school corridors? Not much use for the sofa in it

We (three couples as a family) had a pleasant overnight stay in the beautifully converted old school building. The rooms were very comfortable, with large beds that ensured a good night’s sleep, and the luxurious bathrooms were a real highlight.

Unfortunately, the experience was let down by the quality of the food. The evening meal was unremarkable; the seafood pasta was served with unopened mussels, which was clear to see. This was corrected, but it should not have been served in that state. Breakfast was very disappointing. Two full English breakfasts and smoked kippers were overcooked and almost inedible. When this was mentioned to our server, there was no apology or attempt to put things right; we were simply told that it wasn’t the usual chef. On returning home we brought our experience to the attention of the company’s management, they responded sympathetically; however, by this point, the ambience of celebrating a 70th birthday at the venue had been lost.

The room was very large and comfy (stayed in the Suite) Breakfast was absolutely delicious

Only negative was that I order the pork belly with 'Crispy crackling'. Whilst the pork was delicious the crackling was limp and inedible.

Breakfast menu was excellent. The real ales were excellent too.

The room was quite noisy at night. There seemed to be a lot of beer kegs getting banged around outside!

Stayed in a shepherds hut, lovely and clean, very quiet location it was perfect

This was a gift for my parents, they particularly liked the breakfast, the welcome and generosity they received from the hosts, and their room was perfect for their needs.

Great place to stopover on our way to Scotland

The room was large and well appointed with a very comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and attentive. The location was great for our visit to Bambrugh Castle. The food in the restaurant was excellent, with a good choice. This Apple Inn really surprised me. It was way better than I thought it was going to be, and in a beautiful location. And my better half loved it.

Breakfast service staff were great, but it took 30 minutes just to get two fried breakfasts, and the restaurant was quiet. But if that’s all I could come up with, it’s a minor problem and would not stop us from booking here again.
