The Old Registry guest house

Location and decor of the guesthouse, lovely breakfast, Lady that served us was lovely and friendly.

I rang to say I would arrive late, The call went through to a private number, lady said she'd pass on the message to the guesthouse, but didn't so caused a bit of confusion, found keys to room, found room by ourselves, but wasn't told how to get back into guesthouse after our evening out, better communication is needed.

The location is superb!

As we entered the property we were met with the smell of a greasy cafe! The paintwork on the doors in the ‘reception’ area was dirty and chipped. There was a bell to press for attention - the ‘music’ was nothing short of comical - a kin to a Benny Hill sketch! We were then greeted by a very pleasant young lady, who directed us up the stairs to the Tudor Suite! The carpet leading up the stairs has clearly been well trodden, and the stairwell itself was dark and in need of TLC. The room is decorated with very dark grey walls and dark floral paper to one wall, and again a carpet that didn’t appear clean. I pulled back the duvet back to find that the bottom sheet didn’t actually fit the bed - and to see a huge stain on the mattress protector! The bottom sheet didn’t appear to be freshly washed -and we found many hairs in the bed! There was also a strong drain smell in the bedroom - which explained why the windows had been left wide open! We decided we were not paying £160 to stay for the night - nor would we had it been much less! As we left - the young lady was apologetic and offered to ‘redo’ the room - explaining that she hadn’t been responsible for housekeeping that morning. Obviously we declined! Avoid!

We managed to get into the presidential suite which was superb. The staff were great and we had a great time.

Location. Historical house. Quirky. Nice staff. Good freshly cooked breakfast.

Some parts really not clean. Filthy cushions in bedroom. Dust.

Great location for the village. The room was big . Light . Breakfast was good . With lots of choice. Everything in the village is just a short walk away. The steam train station is across a very pretty park. The Brontë museum is a must do.

Bed and pillows are too soft, pillows ideally need to be replaced. Mattress similar,not overly comfortable. The room although themed I didn't quite get it ,apart from the Henry door knocker to the bathroom. Cups in bedroom not really big enough, especially if you want a hot chocolate 😔 It's a bit tired all round. I think it just needs some love. That said it didn't impact our stay.
