Shocked and disappointed  After my 70th  birthday celebrations and a long  journey from Spain , we arrived to find the George & Dragon pub in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, our 3 night stay accommodation covered in scaffolding. The square the pub is located on also  under refurbishment or construction.   No one informed us of this.   A very nice young man pulled my case up a very narrow staircase. Advised us to use the rear wrought iron fire exit stair case to come and go after hours. I went into the room, sat down, and said to my husband, "I can't stay here." The very small room had a strange dank smell, the white  linen that looked as though it needed an extra wash. The oatmeal foot blanket looked grimey. The bathroom had black mould, a poor shower, a loose toilet seat, and a door that didn't close.  Instead of taking photos, we spent time looking for alternate accommodation. My husband was unable to complain as I needed to get out of there. He gave a lame excuse, and we left.  £80 a night, no breakfast, and no chance of parking close. In building covered in scaffolding, it is not acceptable.  Spoiled the end of my celebration.   Sent from my Galaxy

"We visit here once a year from Berkshire and will continue to do so."

10.0

It's comfortable, ideally located for Alton Towers and the village and parks are really good. Parking nearby was convenient and the landlady was very friendly and the food was great!

Although not the fault of the hotel, the roadworks which I was told are there till October this year (2025) were hard to navigate even for the sat nav.

"Disappointing and disastrous"

I requested a refund. I was unable to park because there was nowhere to park. The parking adjacent to the hotel had been closed. I was not informed and could find nowhere suitable to park. I found another hotel.
