The Balerno Inn

Lovely, honest and just what I needed. Food is great, service is great and the facilities are really nice.

Staff were excellent. Food also very good. Room was clean and comfortable.

Car parking not ideal as had to leave car in public car park which was out of sight.

Bed is comfortable, garden is lovely

Room is so small, that with one step you can access corridor, bathroom & bed. You have no place to place your clothes properly. For two people unimaginable. Anyways to be fair, it is what you see already from the property description and pictures. However what surprised us was rating on booking from customers 9,3 for cleanliness, while room had stains and dust. Shower was not working. From a good things, bed was clean and comfy. Lovely garden at facility and hotel facade is quite soundproof, which allows you to sleep. However corridor is opposite of that, in the morning you can hear other guests first thing in the morning. If you want to only stay for a night, one person, this place is great, however not for this price.

Loved this Scottish Inn! 10/10 would stay again! Alan, the manager was so helpful and friendly. He helped me with my bags up to my room. Explained everything. I wish I could’ve stayed longer than one night but it was the end of a vacation and I was flying home from EDI airport in the morning. Alan helped me call a cab service for an early morning pickup. The place has such character and charm. Had a fish and chips dinner in the restaurant. Food and service were excellent. Took an evening stroll through the quiet little town with my toddler. He really enjoyed the playground on the property. My room was spacious, quiet, comfortable, loved the bottle of water in the room. Hot water in the shower was excellent. Quality towels and amenities. And the little breakfast laid out for guests departing early in the morning was such a thoughtful touch and very helpful. This stay really made me happy.

The ONLY little thing I could possibly ask for would maybe be a black out curtain over the window shutters in the room because of the late summer light. The sun woke me up before 5 am. It’s my fault though because usually I travel with a sleeping mask and forgot it.

The hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was very clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable. All the bathroom fixtures were new, and the shower was modern with an electronic control panel. The room included shampoo, shower gel, liquid soap, and body lotion. We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary breakfast: bananas, several types of yogurt, smoothies, cookies, milk, cereal, a croissant, and chocolate. The Booking.com description did not mention that breakfast was included, so it was a very nice bonus. The room also had bottled drinking water, a kettle, instant coffee, tea, sugar, cream, and sweetener. The staff were very friendly. We had dinner at the hotel, and everything was excellent. We also tried several types of Scottish whisky at prices lower than in restaurants in Edinburgh. We took a walk around Balerno and really enjoyed it — such a lovely place. We definitely recommend this hotel. It takes less than 20 minutes to get to the airport by taxi. Uber and Bolt were unavailable for us, so we had to call a local taxi. It’s better to plan transportation in advance.

Restaurant/Bar was a small neighborhood hangout,with kids and dogs. Hotel was tiny, 4 rooms, I believe. I found it a breath of fresh air. Staff was lovely, food was good, place was spotless. If you're looking for a standard hotel room, this is not for you. Room is tiny, about enough room for a bed. But we enjoyed it and will remember it long after the big chain places are forgotten.
