The restaurant gets super busy, so check you can book a table before you book your room, otherwise it’s a picnic tea from the shop or an hour+ stroll into Patterdale down a lovely track, so not the end of the world The rooms are basic, but do the job, just don’t expect luxury

A fine old traditional Inn, beautiful location, nice food and great beers. Handy for lots of Eastern and Far Eastern fells.

This is such a wonderfully run inn. The staff couldn't have been more kind or helpful. Absolutely everything about our stay was perfect, the cleanliness, the service and the standard of the food were all excellent. It's clear that all the staff work very hard and are very busy, but they always had time to help.

There is nothing not to like about the Brotherswater Inn and I think there have been some very unfair negative reviews on some of the sites on the Internet about not being able to get food or that the portions were small. This was not my experience at all. They advise you to book a table if you wish to dine with them when you book and with a large campsite adjoining the inn this is good advice. If you didn't have a decent booking system in place it would be chaos. You just have to book ahead that's all and not have that sense of entitlement if you don't! The portions are extremely large especially compared to pubs down south where we are from. They are plenty big enough for people burning calories off on the fells!

A very warm welcome by the staff on arrival, the food was fresh and great value for money, the rooms were comfortable and a very good breakfast.

Guy on the til was really unfriendly. Even just ignored me when i said good morning to him on the second day. Even the cleaner was surprised of him. The breakfast food server on the 2nd and 3rd was the only one whos really accomodating to us.

Hostile Staff and Unbearable Noise – Avoid at All Costs My stay at this hotel was a nightmare. The room was plagued by a relentless, loud noise—like a broken ventilator or industrial machinery—making it impossible to rest. When I politely complained about the disturbance, the staff’s response was shocking. Instead of addressing the issue, they became defensive, dismissive, and outright hostile. Their unprofessional attitude turned a frustrating situation into an infuriating one. I’ve stayed in many hotels, but this was by far the worst experience. The lack of empathy and refusal to resolve a legitimate complaint speak volumes about their service. Do not waste your time or money here.
