Wayside Lodge

A convenient stopover on our trip from the KZN South Coast to the Kruger Park. Dinner was Excellent, well prepared, Beds extremely comfortable. Breakfast was superb! Generous portions, well prepared!

We could not find anything amiss! The establishment, hospitality, food, pricing and overall standard was way above what we expected. Well done! we will be back for longer next time!

First day in South Africa

I have visited 72 countries, use the services of various hotel aggregators and for the first time on Booking.com I faced a situation when I booked and paid for a room and I was not allowed into it. Booking 2595.781.203, Wayside Lodge Hotel. After a 15-hour flight to Johannesburg and a 4-hour car ride into the depths of South Africa, we stayed outside in the evening. We requested check-in from 9 to 10 pm and received confirmation. But the gates of the hotel were closed, the phone number indicated on the gate and in the booking confirmation was turned off. We called him more than 10 times and they wrote to the e-mail. We turned to the traffic police, they also dialed the phone number and confirmed that it was turned off. We were forced to seek shelter at night in the African wilderness. Thanks to the ALOE INN hotel, which does not close the gate and does not turn off the phone. We were able to spend the night there. The impudence of the Wayside Lodge hotel is surprising, stating that we did not show up ourselves. What a terrible lie. I can send a screen from the phone screen with a huge number of calls from 9 pm to 10. There is a correspondence, we wrote through Booking.com The money for the booking was not returned to us, by letter the hotel is not responding. I will take advantage of my high status on travelers' websites and leave a review of the hotel on all available sites.

Loved the location and the scenery. Pierre and his son were warm and welcoming and I would love to go back. Can reccomend.

Air/con would have been great.

The gardens, the pool and buildings very neat and clean. The matrasses, pillows, walk-in shower, old pub and relaxing stoep just what we needed.

Very quiet during the week but if you like the pool and the stoep to yourself you will like it.

Everything was perfect especially environment and sleeping under the magalies burg Moutain

The hosts are definitely the best, even better than the perfectly kept garden and the nice rooms. You feel welcome in this place. The rooms are clean, confortable and spacious.

The national load shedding issue is definitely not their fault, but improving the backup would make a big improvement.

We stayed one night on our way back to Johannesburg - and it is a good overnight stop. The lodge is directly located on the N4, you can hear the road a little bit but this was not impairing for us. The Lodge is located in a large garden, everything very neatly laid out. There is a cozy bar and we had nice conversations there with the owner Pierre. The dinner was good, there is no menu but Pierre gives recommendations and we decided for Steak with chips and salad. Safe Parking is within the lodge area.
