"Great location, good food, over priced"

5.0

Nepalese menu was excellent. Staff were friendly and courteous.

Over priced for what we got - also then had to add extras for breakfast and a surplus for my dog.

"Good location, friendly staff, dog friendly but tired accommodation"

Very friendly and helpful staff , Gurkah menu was really nice, very dog friendly, plenty of walks nearby.

Very tired rooms, in need of updating, leaky bath taps, minimal facilities , cold and damp bathroom.

"An Extremely Enjoyable Over-Night Stay in The Compasses Inn!"

10.0

We were on our way home from Cornwall to Essex (350 mile journey) and needed a stopover after about 200 miles. This place matched the bill and is pretty near to the New Forest. We were greeted by a lovely man who couldn't help us enough. We had to wait for 10 minutes whilst they finished our room so we had a well-deserved beer in the front bar. The Compasses Inn is a dated building so we weren't expecting too much. However, our room was pretty big, very clean, the bathroom very clean. There was even fresh milk (just poured as still cold) next to the kettle as well as a jug of fresh water covered. Very thoughtful. We had a walk around the local area - lots to explore if you have the time. Very interesting & old buildings, enclosed ancient paths and a lovely church. We had booked in for dinner and.. .what a delight! There was a choice of Nepalese food, some Indian food, or, if you like plain old British pub food you were catered for. We had a gorgeous Ghurka menu / Nepalese food. My wife who is vegetarian even had a meal made to cater for her. The pub / inn is dog-friendly so there were a dog or two in the dinner room. Not a problem for us but if you don't like dogs, beware. Real ale-wise, only one on cask at the time. But that was quaffable and jolly nice! We both had a good night's sleep - peaceful and restful. The following morning, the breakfast was lovely and the lady who served us was a delight and so friendly. Afterwards, en-route home we dove through miles of the New Forest passing lots of horses, ponies & donkeys, cattle. Absolutely lovely!

NOTHING! All was very good. We would definitely stay here again based on our stay experience.
