Eco Pousada Estrelas da Babilônia

El desayuno de Bibi es increíble! La posada nos gustó, Bibi nos recibió, nos orientó y aclaró todas nuestras dudas durante la estadía. También disfrutamos hospedarnos en la favela Babilonia, no tuvimos ningún inconveniente y, como comentaron todos los huéspedes anteriores, nos sentimos muy seguras caminando ahí día y noche. Además en la favela hay unos restaurantes muy recomendables y a muy buen precio. A unos pocos minutos de caminata de Copacabana y de varias paradas de buses que llevan al centro y otros puntos de interés de la ciudad. Sí, hay una pendiente considerable para alcanzar la posada, pero a nosotras nos gustó hacer ese ejercicio a diario y para el que no quiere caminar, están los mototaxis que son muy baratos. Recomendamos la posada y sin dudas volveremos, si visitamos a Río de vuelta!

Ce n'était pas un problème pour moi, mais attention pour les personnes à mobilité réduite (ou avec enfant à porter, bagages lourds) : les Uber ne peuvent pas vous poser devant l'hôtel (pas de route) Il faut monter pendant 5minutes.

Bibi is a lovely hostess!

Bibi is an excellent host, she has gone to a lot of trouble to provide a very well presented room in a peaceful property. The breakfast was superb. Bibi went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. There is an adventure element to staying in a favela which means bringing the least amount of luggage will make it more enjoyable. We were on a long trip across several climate zones and this created a challenge getting up to the property, Bibi sorted things out, of course.

Access to the property is up a short, steep road that Uber and a lot of taxis will not go up. Then there is a significant number of stairs in the walk to reach it. If you are game, mototaxis will take you up, we were! The quality of the stay overcame these challenges.

Breakfast is served after 8am but is worth the wait. Different every day but always a treat ... fresh fruit, crunchy cereal, pancakes or toast, sometimes eggs, coffee or tea - served in the lovely courtyard. You can make yourself a tea or coffee anytime in the communal kitchen. My room was spotlessly clean and delightful with quirky recycled furniture and good wi-fi reception. The views from the terrace are amazing! Best of all is the warm welcome by Bibi and her staff.

Climbing up all the way can be tiring but the local boys run a `moto-taxi' service from the favela entrance which costs only 5 BRL - from where they drop you off there are only about 50 more steps.

We were thrilled by the atmosphere of the favela - it was a completely new experience for us. Staying at Bibi's was very pleasant, we felt good here. Unique and cozy environment, nice staff, amazing breakfast... I can only recommend it.

Nothing

The hostel is in a beautiful part of the favela, with a great view around the corner. We felt very safe and comfortable. The rooms were accommodating for what we needed. The walk up to Estrelas is pretty steep uphill for about 10 minutes, so just be prepared for that. Not a deterrent, but something to be aware of. Bibi and Barbara were very helpful and kind, and went above and beyond to help make our stay even better.

The host was the nicest person, very kind and reassuring, the place is super cute as well. Kudos for the amazing breakfast that you get to enjoy in the middle of the monkeys.

This is in the heart of a favela where drug trafficking occurs, meaning that you do see teenagers with guns and don’t feel that safe… Ubers don’t feel good going up and if they do you still need to walk up a good 10 minutes to arrive at the Pousada. You can take moto taxis but you shouldn’t be scared of their driving skills. I would not recommend for more than 2/3 nights as you won’t feel as free as you would like to move around, especially at night.

The breakfast here really is amazing! Believe the reviews! We were greeted by little monkeys on one morning. The pousada genuinely is in a favela. It takes a good amount of walking to reach the location up stairs but this added to the experience of staying here. We didn’t feel threatened or unsafe at any point. Its also in a great location close by to leme/copacabana beach which we went to every day on our stay here. Be careful of the waves on the beach!

There is no air conditioning in the rooms, just a fan above the bed. The mini fridge also didn't work in our room so we couldn't keep food close to us. However, we did speak to the staff and were able to keep some items in a communal fridge. We didn’t feel threatened or unsafe at any point, although we did see a person on our final day with a gun. Overall it was a fantastic experience staying here :)
