Smiley's Saloon & Hotel

We had a great stay! It's like stepping back in time. The only drawback is that finding a parking spot is difficult.

Poor hospitality displayed by check in staff. Tried 3 times to check in. First my fault , second time 1/2 hour early although no line, 3 rd time had to go behind 6 guests ordering drinks.

Breakfast was across the street at the walk up bakery. Great chorizo burrito and got a bran muffin to go. Best bran muffin I've ever had. Two places to get dinner, Smiley's and a restaurant across the street. Had decent fish tacos at Smiley's. Room was quaint with minimum amenities but clean.

If you're looking for a town with a lot going on you're in the wrong place. Very slow pace. Just the way I wanted it. Quiet, walk on the beach, look people in the eye when you're walking around. Nice little library. We loved it.

In downtown Bolinas

Small room few amenities, but the only descent place in Bolinas

Bolinas was an unexpected pleasure to visit - we chose it mostly because it was the nearest place to stay to somewhere else we were visiting, but found it to be a delightful location. Smileys appears to be the only place to stay in Bolinas, and the rooms were small but OK. On a Monday the only place to eat in evening was the bar at Smileys, and food was OK rather than great but expensive. Perhaps it was the right time of year, but location was not busy, and weather was very good. The beach at Bolinas is a great place to hang out, and the rest of the (small) town interesting too.

Wifi in room fairly dodgy. Rooms quite small. Door to the ensuite in our room didn't close properly. Room was relatively expensive for what you got.

We were in the back side, not above the saloon. It was a nice, serene area and clean little hotel. Beds were comfy. I thought we were going to hear people in the saloon all night, but not at all. The town is neat and the people are nice. The beach is walking distance. The food in the stores and restaurants were all fresh and healthy options. The whole town is very animal friendly.

There's nothing really I didn't like. We went there with an open mind. Just know there's no TV, parking is on a steep gravel hill, check in through the bar, and all the stores close by 6pm.
