Mountain Home Inn

The Inn is situated on a hillside providing lovely views of the mountains and the San Francisco Bay. Each room had a balcony from which one could appreciate the view. It would be a good place to have a drink and enjoy the scenery. The breakfast choices were good. There was wifi, though it was weak. Pillows were good.

The Inn is in desperate need of remodeling. There is little sign that routine maintenance occurs. There was chipped plaster and paint, moldy caulking in the bathroom, dirty walls, cobwebs in the eating area, a missing knob that prevented the bathroom fan from being turned on, bedside lights that you had to get out of bed to turn on or off, and incredibly noisy plumbing heard between rooms. Instead of investing in new mattresses they appear to have simply put a foam topper on the bed. At the "free breakfast" a tip of $7/person was requested, which at 20% would mean the breakfast was worth $35!

The location away from the city was nice. The breakfast was adequate. The bed was small but comfortable. That's where the positive aspects end.

The property listing indicates that there is a restaraunt and lounge on premises. What is not indicated is that the restaraunt is closed on Monday and Tuesday. We had a "room with a view" but there is a couple large trees that block the majority of the view. The room was TINY. There was no air conditioning and it was very hot during our stay. There was no television in the room. The "suggested gratuity" for breakfast was $7 per person. Yogurt with granola, a slice of reheated food service quiche and some hard melon is not a $35 breakfast. The room was very tired and needed a lot of cleaning, paint touch up and TLC. The entire property was a little sad and in need of a refresh.

Enjoyed the room location and view. Dinner and breakfast were very good. Staff was very helpful.

We did not like the bed foam topper. It made the bed too warm. Our room (4) while small didn't have a chair or small stool to allow you to sit down and tie your shoes and that would be a nice addition.

Breakfast was ok but nothing special.

The bath jets didn't work. Half of the heaters were broken.

A wonderful breakfast. Fresh quiche, plentiful fruit plates. Not the usual hotel breakfast. Included in the room rate.

Never saw or met any mgmt/desk personnel on arrival or departure. Unable to enter the hotel after later arrival due to later flight arrival and cancelation of original reservation by booking.com at preferred lodging. Never received the access code to enter front door. Only after other guests arrived after we waited 45 minutes out front trying to call lodges only number only to reach a voicemail recording....Never received call back, anyhow the other guests had the door code and we entered the hotel. We looked around and found a room key on a bar' entered that room and finding it empty we stayed there overnight.

Mountain Home Inn was a big surprise. It has a history that goes along with the area of redwoods, and goes back to the beginning of when the redwoods began to be protected. It is across the street from the John Muir forests (about a 10 minute drive to John Muir entrance to the redwoods. The breakfast that was included was very good, and a great way to start off the day - having coffee sitting on the deck overlooking the scenery and planning your day.

We were greeted by Kelly very nicely for checking in and given all the details about the Inn and what a pleasant surprise at the accommodations! It was a beautiful setting with a wonderful view of San Francisco Bay and the small towns below us.
