Views from the room and very dog friendly with a nice atmosphere in the bar. Good food for breakfast and dinner

As an old pub having to remember to check head height on some of the stairs and doors

"Wonderful comfortable stay"

10.0

We have just left the Black Bull where we stayed for a couple of nights en route from Kent to Northumberland We had our two dogs with us and they are very dog friendly Our room was very comfortable ,( we had the family room so space for dog cages ) we had tea/ coffee sachets and kettle etc We had an evening meal both nights in the bar as we had dogs and allocated table for our breakfast .The evening meals were hot tasty and plentiful ,the chips were lovely The breakfast was excellent with plenty of hot food choices as well as cereals toast etc and the dogs had a sausage each so they were very happy The atmosphere in the pub is lovely ,everyone very friendly and welcoming .Its very popular with walkers doing the Herriot way and coast to coast a great place to rest weary bones after a day exploring this beautiful area The Dales bike hire outside Reeth is handy and has excellent cafe and Cakery with a vast variety of cakes

Old pub/restaurant located in the beautiful village of Reeth. A touch of luxury sandwiched between nights of camping. Room was comfortable with en suite. Staff were excellent and the food top notch.

"A real home from home!"

10.0

We stayed in a cottage nearby for a week over Easter and although there are three great pubs in Reeth, The Black Bull is our favourite by far so we were in every day at some point. The food was great and the specials are always worth a look at; the chefs knock up some tasty treats. They have a great range of real ales, plenty of the wines I love, and 2 lovely open fires to warm up by, and it is super dog friendly with plenty of loves and treats from the staff. The pub itself is full of character and there are plenty of interesting things dotted around to look at and read, but the best part by far is the staff. We were made to feel so welcome and it is rare that you feel like a local so far from home, but this place pulls it off perfectly and Helen and David have done a great job with it. I was so impressed with the attitudes of the staff during what I hope was an unusual week, with several very difficult customers to deal with; including oddly aggressive men who plop their false teeth on the bar and try to intimidate staff and park their cars in the doorway, to overly entitled old folk who think that the rules (clearly displayed around the premises) don’t apply to them and find it perfectly acceptable to let their dogs climb all over furniture and defecate on the floor while people are enjoying their Sunday lunch around them (Sasha, you have the patience of a saint!) We very much enjoyed chatting to Dale and loved that he added my favourite songs to the playlist the following night because he had remembered I like them, and Darcy does a great job of gliding round the place bringing food and clearing away plates etc. Helen is such a warm and friendly person and fantastic to chat to, and we really enjoyed Nicola’s dry sense of humour and her stories! We were due to go home on the Friday but didn’t want to miss out on David’s bingo and the wheel of fortune, so we actually stayed for that and drove home (2 hours away) afterwards at 10pm! We can’t wait to come back, I know it will be the first place I go the next time we are in Reeth. Thank you all for making our stay so memorable!

"Welcoming hosts, good accommodation"

8.0

Excellent breakfast and staff. Friendly atmosphere in the pub.

We found that it took a long time for the water in the bathroom basin to run hot or even warm. Perhaps this was because it's a very old building. Not a massive problem, but we felt we wasted a lot of water.
