What a uniquely charming place! Well worth the effort to find, but best to avoid the fell routebin winter as it was impassable in the snow. The manager ('Pads') directed me in from the coast road instead. I was treated like an old friend and was catered for, in spite of Booking.com taking the booking when the place was officially closed! I was the only guest in the place. My room was comfortable, I had a home made dinner (mutton chilli) and great company late into the evening with two great guys who work in site - John and Miles. A fantastic place run by wonderful and down to earth people. Don't ruin it by going with attitude and expecations of what you would normally get from any old pub hotel. This is a place for locals, walkers and those who want to shake off modernity in search of open fires, great chat and a variety of adorable dogs. I loved it.

Good range of options and delightful service

I developed a tummy upset which I think may have been undercooked mushrooms.

The accommodation was excellent, in particular, the ensuite. A beautiful log fire welcomed me and a pint of local ale. The food was all locally sourced and I opted for traditional ham and eggs. The Woolpack is situated at the head of Eskdale and is completely off the beaten track. Will be returning in the future.

Great location lovely staff and great food, what more do you need? Dog friendly too with a Goldie to eel come our arrival. Excellent.
