I like this hotel I can't say anything negative.

Staff

Staff were generally good, breakfast was freshly cooked and was excellent. Bedroom was clean and comfortable.

On arrival the barman was not really welcoming, asking a colleague if she was going to check us in, or has he got to do that as well. Slightly disappointed with the Sunday carvery, to be told by the chef that the cauliflower cheese was "all gone," with 2 hours of service to go. He was not at all apologetic, we also noted the new potatoes had turned into mash, there was no mashed swede, and there was frozen peas and sweetcorn.

The Birdham is our favourite place to stay on the island and only gets better every time we stay. The staff & food are the highlight for us as well as incredible value for money.

Clean room, nice pub downstairs with good food, very helpful staff, would highly recommend!

Hotel location is lovely. And the building looks nice from the outside.

We booked the Birdham Hotel as its listed as a 4star, and the photos on the brochure on booking.com looked lovely breakfast included and great value for money, and then... we arrived. 1st impressions is plenty of parking, we walked through the door from the car park, and we found ourselves stood in a pub. No reception desk in sight, no signs, no directions, no engagement from staff, nothing. We walked outside and found another entrance to the hotel, but the doors were locked. We then started getting a bit annoyed after driving 4 hours. We just wanted to check in. So we called the hotel, the lady said we have to walk through the restaurant around the back we will find reception. Luckily the lady came and met us and walked us through. Why is there no signs? Why is the main door to reception locked? Baffling. Then we were shown to our room. I was shocked. Nothing like the images on the website, awful dated and just worn out. Cracked walls, dirty, dusty, windows rattled with the wind and so did the door, the bathroom is falling apart, mouldy grouting on the tiles, the sealant about the bath tub was black, curling in on itself and mouldy, the t.v was smaller than my iPad and the thermostat on the rad was broken. That night was awful, slept 3 hours tops. It was so hot. We couldn't open the window too much as it rattled in its housing, the wind was knocking the door. So we closed it and endured the sauna. In the morning, we were so tired but thought we'd get up l, go have breakfast, to then be told that we dont have breakfast included in our booking. My wife was livid, grabbed my phone with the confirmation and went to see the receptionist (who wasn't there) we showed the confirmation to the waiter and we received breakfast, we heard the waiter arguing with 4 other families saying booking.com have messed up and breakfast should be charged. We told him that is for him to take it up with booking.com.
