A lovely little pub just outside Welshpool. We were made to feel well at home as soon as we arrived. Alice the owner will do anything to make your stay a great one.

Just a little noisy in the bedrooms.

Nothing about the place was pleasant, especially the host.

The owner was rude from the word go. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a cantankerous lady who seemed as though she didn't want us there. She began with giving us house rules that seemed fair and expected to begin with. Although delivered aggressively. Then went on to abruptly ask what we wanted for breakfast. Giving us no menu and almost challenging us on what we could and couldn't have. Then giving us an option of two time scales for our breakfast. (8 or 8:30) My mother of 75 years old doesn't drink tea or coffee and asked for hot chocolate instead to accompany her for breakfast. The host's response was a huf with annoyance. I had to bite my lip, because already I was ready to leave. Keep in mind here that I'd booked this place for two nights based on the reviews. (Who wrote the reviews I have no idea, probably her group of 5 friends that use her place as their own home bar) We eventually climbed our way into our room after dealing with a staircase that was crumbling beneath our feet. The room was pokey and cold. However, after the ordeal we had been put through that day due to a family crisis (which was the reason why we were staying there) and the terrible "welcoming" we had from the host we were absolutely shattered and just wanted to crash. At that point we discovered how disgusting the room was. Full of spiders and cobwebs, no mattress and pillow protector covers, no water and out of date coffee sachets. Later on that evening of our first night I retracted downstairs to the bar area, to retrieve some drinking water for our room. I was charged £6.50 for two small bottles of water. I also asked where we could retreat outside for a spot of fresh air during the night as we were restless due to family issues going on. I was told we were to be locked in from 22:30 until 08:00 due to her not having a night porter and her being a small run business mainly by herself.

The entire property was spotless. The bedroom and en-suite were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good and well cooked and presented. The choice of evening meals was very good. The most important was that it was home made and of excellent quality. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.

Perfect for me. Clean, comfortable and spacious room with a great shower. The staff were so friendly and helpful
