Hostal Cerro Azul

Really nice room, really good location and really good hosts. Great WiFi and hot showers!! Really enjoyed - also lovely empanada store at the end of the road.

NO FILTERED WATER which is such a shame, especially as we are in the Galápagos trying to reduce plastic waste WiFi doesn’t really work

The check-in was informative and went fine. There was a nice plant area with hammocks, there was a shared fridge.

This was the most terrible experience in paid accomodation that we have ever had in our lives. Initially the facilities were just a little lacking- for instance, the wifi was patchy, there was only one pan in the kitchen and no sharp knives. No drinking water available and had to boil your own, and the staff were so finicky that the boiled water kept being chucked. The sink in the bedroom was falling apart. The most terrible part of this place was the owners. An unfortunate accident occurred when we were leaving early in the morning for a tour. The older man was throwing water on the floor to mop (without a wet sign) and my friend immediately slipped stepping off the stairs onto the floor and opened her elbow to the bone. The older man got frazzled, started manhandling her, and wouldn't stop when asked. I asked him where the hospital was, he told me and I walked her there where she got 5 stitches (so was unable to snorkel, the reason we went to Isabela). Over the next few days, the older man completely avoided us and was unavailable when we needed to ask about laundry, linens etc. When we finally tracked him down and lightly mentioned that a little duty of care from the host would be nice (just to ask she was okay, or offer a fresh towel or something) he immediately got defensive and started yelling extremely angrily and loudly, telling us it was her fault, that she had terrible shoes on (they were hiking boots but that is not the point) that he is not her father, that we were 'behaving badly' (not sure what he meant by that). When we then asked for a refund for the rest of our stay as we felt extremely unsafe and threatened by this behaviour, he denied it, only let up after about an hour more of shouting at us when I said that he was essentially holding us hostage as we didn't have the extra funds to go somewhere else. When we approached the son about this he backed him up.

Great location in great Isabela island. The room was clean, with hot water in the shower and all necessary facilities in the room.

The equipment in the kitchen is a bit poor.
