"This was our second stay at the Red Lion and I’m sure we will be going back."

Very comfortable room. The restaurant is superb.

Nothing. We were lucky that we got a parking spot in the car park. Not sure where we would have parked if it was full.

"Great views, great breakfast, inclusive room rate."

10.0

Beautiful stay at the Red Lion. Our lovely double room had great seafront view with a chair situated in the bay window to relax and enjoy it. The room was classed as a small double but the space was comfortable and adequate to house a wardrobe, bedside tables and drawers, with space around the bed. There were also hooks for coats, which I consider an essential but are often not supplied. Everything was provided that you could want from a hotel room, robes, toiletries, bottled water, replenished daily. I particularly appreciated fresh milk and extra water kept in a fridge on the landing for when you needed it. Breakfast was included in the room rate, and was one of the best and biggest breakfasts I have ever had. Served at the table, not buffet, with several choices of mains and the bonus of a lovely Virgin Mary. There were also some unexpected little extras. Scones in a tin on arrival, with jam and cream and a voucher for an ice-cream each. The room rate was fully inclusive, no little supplements added on at breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We had dinner in the restaurant on our first night, which was excellent. The pub itself was busy with a great atmosphere. We enjoyed a drink in the conservatory when returning from a day out. Great selection of drinks, all beautifully presented. The hotel is centrally placed in Cromer, and a few minutes walk to the restaurants in the town. I would highly recommend staying at the Red Lion.

Altogether excellent.

Breakfast was absolutely superb: best we've ever had in a British hotel, but.... There is a choice of beautifully devised and presented starters in lieu of the usual cereals. However, while these were fruit- and dairy-based, they all contained sugar or honey. The menu invites customers to mention dietary requirements and allergies. As somebody with diet-controlled diabetes I asked whether it would be possible simply to have a piece of plain fruit. This request was immediately declined as not possible, which is quite extraordinary for a five-star hotel in the middle of a town. I mention this because feedback has been requested and I would otherwise have awarded a straight 10 out of 10. The slight disappointment matters because it confirms a trend across the entire up-market catering sector where--for example--cafes offer sweet pastries and buns (or croissants unnecessarily dusted with sugar) but cannot, or will not, supply a savoury sandwich or cheese scone. This is a pattern that, frequently repeated, increasingly feels like discrimination against a medical condition that I've managed for 40 years. It seems like matters are regressing, but in a fancy way. Forty years ago, it was frustrating when the choice was between Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies and Frosties. But then came muesli without added sugar, fresh fruit salad without syrup, and plain yoghurt. Now choice is again diminished. A vegetarian full English breakfast was offered, providing the option of a dietary preference, and it was amazingly good. Similarly, people with allergies and coeliac conditions were catered for. It is a pity that comparable choice was not comprehensive across the menu, particularly as it would be so simple. The art of food preparation needs to be inclusive.
