La Colombe Boutique Hotel

The location. Zug is spectacular. Gym is simple but well equiped.

I was travelling alone. When I arrived reception was unmanned, I went to the terrace and found someone to assist me. She was not welcoming at all. After giving me my room key she said to follow her. No offer to help with my suitcase. I was taken to the room at the top of a flight of stairs. The room was spacious and new but in the attic with many strange angles requiring me to duck my head around the bed, in the kitchen etc. The light switches did not and the TV didn’t work in the evening. I reported it the following morning and it was looked at. They acknowledged that it wasn’t a great room. They offered to fix it but I was heading out. The lighting stopped working in the bathroom, I asked about that and it was promptly fixed. There are no power points near the bed for phone charging. I needed to request an iron and ironing board. They don’t cost much, equip rooms with them. The bathroom had no bench space and the power point is hidden. There was no light near the full length mirror in the bedroom. Not that you can stand up straight there anyway because of the sloping roof.  Thank goodness my husband wasn’t travelling with me he would have found the sloping ceiling annoying to manoeuvre with his height. I was told upon check in that I needed to decide if I was having breakfast the following day right then. I wasn’t sure and said yes. The following I was given the most uncomfortable table in the middle of an empty restaurant. I asked to move and was able to. The breakfast was sub par and not worth the 20+ of breakfast items I didn’t really want and with no selection.  There was a plate of cheese and ham. A breadbasket and a croissant. A pot of yogurt and chocolate granola. There was also a fruit platter. The strawberries were mouldy and I left them on the plate. I asked for an alternate museli and was given raw oats. I was told I could select eggs. I assumed 2. I asked for poached and not runny.

We had the upper penthouse with a small terrace overlooking the whole lake, just wonderful! The food is excellent, breakfast outside or inside just perfect and the staff couldn’t be more helpful! Thank you Giovanni and team for this wonderful stay!
