Although very central, the setting was like you were in a rural location. Beautiful mature trees and tropical vegetation surrounded the cottages. The dining area where breakfast was served was in a separate 2-storey building had a huge guava tree right in front which the resident capuchin monkeys use to move around. It was a treat seeing them jump from the roof to the tree to wherever they were headed for the day while we were having breakfast. They offered an array of local and western breakfast items which kept us going until mid afternoon. The room and bathroom (albeit dated) are kept clean with daily housekeeping service. Restaurants, shops, and tour offices are within walking distance.

Our single level cottage was right next to a 3-story cottage which blocked most of the light on the left, thus keeping the room quite dark even with curtains open. Although I love the simple wood paneling that run from the wall to the ceiling, the dark stain, dark floor, dark bedding, and single overhead light made the room, well, dark. Also, there were no plugs by the bedside tables for charging phones. The bed was firm enough but pillows were quite soft so extra pillows would have been appreciated. I know that we could have availed of laundry services from them but we wanted to do our own. Since it was quite windy during the night, clothes washed in the evening and hung on the balcony chairs were almost dry in the morning. Some hanging poles/lines by the balcony (which was partially hidden by mature plants) would have been convenient.

The staff at the hotel are absolutely lovely. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. They helped organise some transport to a local reserve and also allowed us to check in earlier than expected. Breakfast was good, hearty and varied. The grounds were pleasant with lots of pets and the occasional bit of wildlife. Rooms were clean and comfortable - ours had a nice outdoor seating area overlooking the forest which we liked. Good shower too! We really enjoyed our stay - shame it was only two nights!

At night it seemed that you were in a zoo,dogs barking the whole night, every night. Was not able to get a good night sleep.
