Hotel Divisamar by LHR

We had a great time staying here. Al, the owner, was friendly and kind, with a great sense of humour. We arrived to discover we had been given a free room upgrade! Al was very helpful, always providing us with extra bits and pieces like crockery, cutlery and towels. Lovely warm pool heated by the sun. Our bedspreads and even our shower curtain was changed during our week's stay!

At check in they didn’t have our reservation. The next day when we asked front desk to watch our luggage, they insisted that we return by 3pm. Given our check-in was such a debacle, we expected more consideration. When we asked for more time, they responded that they were so busy with new reservations, they couldn’t watch our bags any later than 4pm. When we came to pick it up, they weren’t busy at all and we realized they were being difficult for absolutely no reason. Overall this hotel had the most unfriendliest staff we’ve ever experienced in Costa Rica. To be fair, the location was great and the breakfast staff were very friendly.

The rooms were pretty basic/primitive our least favorite during our time in Costa Rica. Beds weren’t too comfortable and there wasn’t much for amenities. The location however made it worth it. The owner was very friendly and helpful. He explained how to get to the beach/national park by bus (super cheap and easy). The restaurant across the street had an amazing view and we spent both night in the area on the restaurant patio. The hotel is also very close to a small grocery store and a pharmacy (this ended up being very important for me as I got pretty sick on our trip). All and all we liked the hotel and the price was decent for the area.

The room was not nice at all. No safe, no hair dryer, no hot water. Bathroom shower head splashed onto the side of the door causing a big pool of water in the bedroom. TV was bulky and the screen was small. Reception closed early around 6:30 so can’t even ask them if they have a hair dryer. Had to sleep in wet hair. The location was good though but not within walking distance to the beach.

The Divisamar Hotel is in a great location for restaurants, supermarkets and beaches and is only a 40 min walk to the national park. Al is the lovely man on the front desk who sorted my room for me even though i was early, sorted out the payment for the room which they had no record off and advised ne of the best ziplining company. My only complaints: There were a lot of french students on the first night who were very noisy, yelling, running backwards and forwards between rooms and playing loud music The wifi is very hit and miss The shower would either be too hot or it would go cold 😔 All in all though a nice friendly place.
