Castillo de Monte la Reina Posada Real & Bodega

Stunning location with glorious nature all around. Fantastic staff. Great breakfast. Option to have a picnic in the grounds, under the olive trees, in the evening, which we absolutely loved. Fabulous bodega. Highly recommend trying the cuvée privee. Bodega tour was really informative and our expert guide was brilliant. The room was lovely and airy. Bed was exceptionally comfortable.

The property was advertised in Portugal but was in Spain.

Everything, the rooms were massive, the bathrooms are in the towers, they have this kitchen called the honesty bar that's open to everyone, food coffee and beer wine it's really cool, plenty of places to walk, dog friendly and they they have their own vineyard and the wine tastes really good

The restaurant was closed, I think for renovation, so pity we missed that, other than that no complaints whatsoever

Location is great. very quite. The rooms are fantastic.

No restaurant facilities on the site. Our room had a strange smell that we complaint about.

Awful experience. Beautiful building in nice setting. Receptionist was very accommodating in light of all the properties failings. She even offered to ask the couple who booked in before us to swap rooms. However we did not feel this was fair treatment for the other couple and declined the offer. Subsequently she gave us a bottle of wine and some pate. I am trying to obtain a refund via booking.com however to date they have not received a response from the hotel.

Property is not as advertised. My wife and I are tall, therefore we always interrogate the website to ensure that the bed will be big enough and definitely does not have a footboard at the end. None of the pictures provided showed a foot board. However upon arrival we found our bed to be too small and with a footboard which unfortunately for us would make sleep difficult and uncomfortable. I then could not find the air-conditioning (as advertised in the facilities section) to be told that there was none. It was about 34 degrees! Having read the reviews and visited the properties own web site we were looking forward to an evening meal in the restaurant only to be told that it was closed that night as there was a wedding the next day! We had driven 500 miles, it was late and due to the properties location there was nowhere near to eat. There is an honesty bar at the hotel with some very nice snacks at exorbitant prices. So a romantic dinner in a castle did not happen. As to sleep we got none! It was soo hot that we had to open the shutters and window. But the castle is floodlit at night and subsequently our room was like the Blackpool illuminations. At 01:00 things got worse. A rave or suchlike had started somewhere in the countryside around the castle. It was so loud that we had to shut the windows and shutters. The base was so loud that at 05:30 with no sleep at all we had to leave and start another 500 mile drive. Some online research revealed that these raves were a regular occurrence known about by local businesses and the police. Shame we didn't know at least some of the above before considering booking here. There are no staff on site after 19:00 but I doubt there would be anything that they could have done. The bathroom was a wet room but tiny and subsequently everything would get wet when the shower is in use, it was also not vey clean. There were hairs, including pubic on the floor. Also there are exposed sockets on the wall of the wet room.

Hotel was great. Loved the kitchen and the ability to prepare your own meal. And honesty bar. Location and views were stunning for us.

Main patio seating area was unkempt with glass on the floor and tables were grubby. Not sure though if this was the responsibility of the hotel or the Bodega so didn’t let it affect my review.

Staying in a faux castle. The restaurant being unexpectedly closed was a happy accident as we enjoyed using the guest kitchen to prepare our own food and eating on the terrace.

There was nothing not to like
