The Popinjay Hotel

The staff were amazing! We had an issue with one room not being clean and they were moved as soon as it was brought up. The food at the restaurant was delicious! Especially the Gurkha curry!

The decor was just so stunning, dinner was lovely & service excellent. Claire our waitress very attentive and welcoming, so was Andrew at Reception - a lot of people in customer service could learn a lot from these 2. Bed was comfortable, room basic but clean and cosy. Lovely traditional style building with modern, unique reception areas. On a main road but you dont really hear the traffic

Breakfast was a bit disappointing, waited quite a while and when full breakfast arrived the bacon wasn't cooked enough, some items very hot and some quite cold on plate. Bit random. Didn't complain as I didn't want to wait any longer for food. My only issue with my stay

Bathroom was nice and bed was nice.

Curtain was broke, bath didnt work and room was very small. Very expensive.

Lack of staff at peak times

Pretty building, the food was delicious.

Room was basic, with really squeaky floor boards, and a draught from the windows. (I know - it's a really old building) Took a long time to be served at dinner, but it was a bit busy. The girl behind the bar was being really mean to her colleague and not being discrete about it either. Didn't present with a good attitude at all. Everyone else seemed really pleasant.

The food is incredible and the room is great all for an absolute bargain price. Second time we have stayed here and we will always use this on our trips from now on.

Very clean and the bed was so comfortable.
