HOUSE CATTLEYA monteverde

The property and host Marcela were beautiful. It was easy to find via GoogleMaps, Waze, and there are signs on the road. The roads in and around Monteverde are famous for their pot holes and rough dirt sections but getting to the house isn’t bad. The private parking was great! The apartment was huge and beautifully done with a couch/lounging area, four person dining table, armoir, nightstands - good lighting. It does have two skylights that provide wonderful light - sunrise is about 6am and sundown 6pm all year. The bed was a very large king that was firm but comfortable with 4 king sized pillows and an extra blanket. The hosts provide quality bedding and bath towels. If it happens to be unusually warm for Monteverde, there is no air conditioning but there are lots of screened windows to open for fresh air and it cools off rapidly when the sun goes down. A space heater is provided for the normal chilly temps. The hosts provide coffee, tea, sugar, salt, oil in the kitchen along with a lovely bottle of wine (red for us), bananas and apples. There are grocery stores in town to get milk for coffee, bread, etc. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, two burner cooktop, a microwave, an elec kettle, a blender, and a drip coffee maker plus pots, pans, and dishes. The washer/dryer combo was wonderful. If you have never used one before, just be aware that the drying time in these (all brands) is quite long - could be 3 hours to dry something depending on what it is so plan accordingly. It works well just need to plan the time. We didn’t find it too noisy to run at night when we went to bed. There is also a drying rack to air dry along with an ironing board/iron. If you haven’t encountered the famous Costa Rican shower head hot water head, make sure to set the switch on the unit to hot then only turn on the water as little as possible. They do work and it does get hot - just not as much water pressure.

We had a fantastic stay at Monteverde House. The room is really spacious and comfortable, and Marcela is a really friendly and helpful host. I would definitely stay here again! The apartment is very spacious and has everything you need. There is even a Netflix account! The bed is large and comfortable. Everything in the kitchen was good quality and worked well. There is no air con, so it was warm in the day, but there is a fan and the climate is comfortable and cool at night. The windows have bug screens to allow ventilation. The washing machine works really well, and Marcela provided some essentials in the apartment (oil, salt, pepper, teas, sugar, coffee, laundry powder). The bathroom is spacious. The shower doesn't have separate temperature control, but it's comfortable and the pressure is acceptable. Marcela is a really friendly host. She met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the apartment. She also helped arrange a fantastic birding tour of the Cloud Forest with Raúl, and we saw some incredible birds! The location is quite remote, but there is a vegetarian supermarket within walking distance. Stella's, by the supermarket, is lovely but not open for dinner. Curi-Cancha Reserve is within walking distance; the Cloud Forest visitor centre could be walkable but it's uphill! We didn't have a car and it wasn't a problem, although with a car clearly there are more options.

Monteverde House is top notch. Don’t hesitate to book this. The location was perfect, the amenities, amazing, the hostess, super sweet and helpful. We saw many interesting birds, trees and plants right on the property or within a short walk.

The house was perfect for our family of three. Marcela prepared everything really well for our arrival and met us with great hospitality. The kitchen, shower and bedrooms had everything we need, and a washing machine was a much appreciated bonus! We enjoyed the time on the house porch, there are so many birds around in the green lush surroundings. Walking distance to Curi Cancha wildlife reserve and to Bajo el Tigre conservancy, both were great experiences.
