Granary Villa

My wife and I arrived at Granary Villas shortly before 3:00 pm on Sunday 14 June 2026. The property was unmanned, although a lady named Bushra was present and left as we entered. We entered the communal kitchen area and proceeded to Room 7, which had been allocated to us and was advertised as a “Bridal Room”. Upon entering the room we were immediately struck by a strong smell of drains, which appeared to be emanating from the en-suite bathroom. The room itself appeared grubby and poorly maintained, with visible dust on surfaces. While assessing the room, my wife discovered that the toilet was dirty, with faecal matter present around the bowl beneath the seat. She cleaned the toilet herself before we had fully inspected the room. Further inspection revealed that the shower tray was dirty and contained hair and other debris. We then examined the bedding and discovered that two pillows were in an unacceptable condition. One pillow showed evidence of drool staining, whilst another displayed extensive staining and what appeared to be mould spores. This prompted us to inspect the mattress. After removing the sheet, we discovered there was no mattress protector in place. The mattress itself was heavily stained with urine. At this point we concluded that the room was unhygienic and unsuitable for occupation. The cumulative effect of the drain odour, dirty toilet, unclean shower, stained pillows and urine-stained mattress left us with no confidence whatsoever in the cleanliness standards of the property. At approximately 14:52 we attempted to contact the accommodation using the telephone numbers provided. We received no answer on any of the numbers supplied and left messages on both the landline and mobile telephone numbers. As time was passing and we required accommodation for our stay, we also sent a message to the property through the Booking.com platform and began searching for alternative accommodation.

No parking available as not enough spaces for the number of people staying. The Granary restaurant had stopped functioning and its car park was closed off with locked gates. Only a small amount of parking was therefore available to people staying in the separate accommodation. No hot water. It was a contactless check in. We were given 3 phone numbers in case of problems, but we got no response from any of the phone numbers when we phoned about the above problems.

Wasn't welcomed, had to grab a guys attention who was walking past with some plumbers. I was told at this point(no call or email to tell me there was a problem with my accommodation) that there was a problem with the boiler and the room i had booked had no heating or hot water. I was told that the alternative room was better and that there was no charge for the upgrade. Happy days I thought.... Entered the door into a shared kitchen area which was prior to my room door. I was met with muddy footprints, temperature was colder than outside, turned left to my accommodation door, internal door was white at some point but was now grubby /dirty fingerprints and foot marks. Opened the door and my first sight was a tatty chest of drawers which again was grubby and white paint was chipped from top to bottom down the side and corner. My first observation after this was the old people's home scent, and how cold/damp it felt in there. A quick check of the chest of drawers presented a used false fingernail, some used pins and a Costco receipt. No hot water and in lieu of adequate heating, a tatty electric heater which at that point wasn't switched on to heat the room prior to our arrival. So it was actually colder than the 8ish degrees outside. The 4 poster bed was rickety/loosely assembled, dusty surfaces and part used tea/coffee/sugar packets by the kettle. I immediately went and spoke to the guy who i had previously spoken to( as i understand he was just there to receive the plumbers and not actually an employee) He spoke to the manager within seconds and offered me alternative accommodation up the road at a pub, or £20 off my payment to stay where i was.

NOT WHAT I PAID FOR, ALTERNATIVE WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE, NOW THEY HAVE KEPT MY MONEY AND ARE IGNORING MY EMAILS. AVOID! See above We chose not to stay firstly due to the fact we were not given the room I had booked, backup room wasn't clean enough, and was freezing cold.
