Beautiful hotel, amazing service, would most definitely stay there again!

Quality traditional breakfast.

The breakfast was very good we enjoyed the Sri Lankan food, ideal location only 10 minutes walk to the city centre and the world famous Buddhist temple. I walked around the lake in the evening and it was very peaceful surrounding. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. my stay was very comfortable and excellent value for money.

Beautiful stay! It is close to the Kandy lake Walking distance 5mins The room was very pleasant, it was cozy and clean. Breakfast was excellent and incredibly varied. The hotel team has always been friendly, patient and helpful. That impressed me the most. No matter what time of day or night, you could turn to them with all your concerns. On my next stays, I will definitely check into Lakefield Hotel The price performance ratio is very good." Highly recommended

Central location

No hot water Either fan or Air conditioning available to use at a time, not both together No cooked dinner available because not many booked that day. They needed to make dinner only for me. Dinner was very small potions served. Not much choice was there.

As much as I truly loved Sri Lanka—its warm-hearted people, breathtaking landscapes, and rich culture—PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. This is not a reflection of the country or its people, but rather an isolated and deeply troubling experience with this specific hotel, which subjected us to a ***calculated scam involving foreign exchange manipulation, intimidation tactics, unlawful passport withholding, and racial abuse.*** Avoid this hotel at all costs. Many reviews echo our experience—it’s part of a repeated scam targeting tourists. This is uncommon and unheard of elsewhere in Sri Lanka, so please do not generalize our experience. Sri Lanka is a beautiful destination—just be cautious and informed !! Short summary of our report and lawsuit: • Booked via Booking.com for $20 USD/night, but staff refused USD and forced me to pay in Sri Lankan Rupees using a manipulated exchange rate using a fake central bank website page • When I challenged them, they ignored the official rate and told me I “didn’t understand how it works here.” • The owner showed up, gave us an ultimatum: pay their fake rate or leave. Then staged an overbooking and threw out our luggage. • They withheld our passport copies and the receptionist responded with racial slurs and abuse. • We’ve filed official complaints and are taking legal action for fraud, racial discrimination, and illegal conduct. ⸻ Bottom line: This hotel runs a well-rehearsed scam targeting foreigners. Don’t be fooled by the low price—it’s not worth the trauma or the trouble.
