Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Beautifully cooked. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The view from my bedroom was magnificent. Loved the art deco interior, The garden was beautiful.

Only very minor things like no long mirror in the bedroom.

Beautiful location, great facilities, nice touches like providing a packed lunch for walkers on request. Staff were generally very friendly and welcoming. Great place to come for a special weekend away or a bit of luxury after a day on the fells.

We were confused about the additional 12.5% discretionary service charge and were unsure who this went to. It would be better to have this as part of the overall costs. It was quite uncomfortable to see this on each bill and equally awkward for your team to have to explain and justify it. There was the offer to return to the till and produce a new receipt that excluded a service charge but it’s not in the spirit of hospitality to put customers in this position. I would hope all staff (both front and back) were already paid fairly for the great work we can see they do and it would be nice to just be able to tip in the traditional way and avoid the awkward situation.

The hotel is sadly run down and not what we had expected for instance based on a glowing review of the accommodation and food in a Telegraph articel from a couple of years ago.
