"Reading festival pit stop "

2.0

Stayed here over the weekend of reading festival. The room was a good size but could have done with a lick of paint and friendly touch. It was very dirty and scummy but it was a last minute budget hotel. The staff were ok to talk to but food was not served over the weekend due to lack of staff and there wasn't many guests that I could see staying in the hotel which didn't make us feel all that welcome.

"dirt on top of dirt"

2.0

The accommodation is dirty and smelly. If you like to physically see dirt and grime everywhere in the room then this is the hotel for you. I was lucky enough to only be booked in for 3 nights and managed to work long hours on site so didn't have to spend much time in the hovel. However after a long day at work it would be appreciated to actually be able to clean ones self but this turned out to be apparently as hard as cleaning the room due to the lack of water pressure to operate the shower (literally a dribble) or fill a bath that you wouldn't want to lie in. Breakfast? Unsurprisingly I chose not to eat here as a may have been bed bound and never made it out of the room again. Please enjoy my photos.

We wanted somewhere to stay at the last minute.it was 6pm and with a little help from a friend who lived in the area we found this one that had a cheap b+b twin room available. The hotel looks quite nice from the road.It has quite good parking facilities. We rang and were given a room straight away.On arrival I was helped up the steps into the building by a couple of customers that were in the bar,I had just come from hospital on crutches.)We had been allocated a room on the top floor but as soon as they saw my predicament and we asked we were given a room on the ground floor. The room was in the other house at the side of the main building. On looking around it was a little bit grubby looking and in need of a lick of paint and a bit of new carpet. The shower was not too good, with mould all around it and there was damp on the bedroom window wall. The mattress felt as if the springs were about to pop through but on saying this I had the best nights sleep ever!!! We then read the reviews on here which gave us a right laugh and wondered where on earth we had come to.But hey ho we were there and paid and had to give them a chance. We both had a really good nights sleep and only woke at 8.30 so we quickly got up to go see what the bad breakfast was all about that we had seen on the reviews. We were greeted by the gentleman that had booked us in and the 2 ladies that were to serve breakfast. They helped me to the table and were very welcoming and asked our requirements. We helped ourselves to juice and were served with tea/coffee and toast + then the breakfast of bacon/egg/sausage+beans.The bacon cooked well done, exactly as we had asked for it.(admittedly no mushrooms as we had been told but we didn't say anything) the ladies came a couple of times asking if we needed any more toast/drinks etc. the gentleman came and told me I could use the fire exit door to go back to our room as there was a smaller step than at the main door.we went back to our room and chilled until the 11 o'clock check out time.I feel lots of the reviews are very unfair. It might not have been the cleanest of places but we could not fault the friendliness+helpfulness of the people. The price was also considerably less than all others in the area.It was warm and a bed for the night, cheap and cheerful I guess.I am actually glad that I had not read the reviews first and that I gave this hotel a chance. I would go back and stay there if I needed the odd night in the area.

"Cheap and cheerful"

Arrived at 19:30 with mum who is on crutches, the reception staff were very obliging and changed our room from one upstairs to a ground floor room with no quibbles!! Helped us to our room with our bags. Upon arriving in the room it smelt a bit musty and we noticed there was quite a few patches of damp on the wall under the window and around the window frames, there was also mildew in the shower which we decided not to bother using. The bedding was clean although no valances on the divan frames and the beds were surprisingly comfy and we both had the best nights sleep we have had for a while! Maybe down to tiredness but a good night nevertheless! No issues at all with noise as the other residents seem to respect that there are others staying here! I believe that there are a few mire permanent residents and contractors here too but have had no problems at all! Getting up for breakfast we must have been the last over as we got up late but all the staff were very obliging, pulled out seats for us at a table and brought us got drinks. The breakfast was basic but nice and the kitchen appeared to be very clean. The Asian man who I believe to be the owner also told us to use the back fire exit door to get out and back to our room as it would be easier for my mum. Overall I feel that although rooms could do with a good clean and refurb, you get what you pay for! The staff were all lovely and we were quite overwhelmed that they went out of their way to help us!

"Stay - 6th July 2013"

This was a trip to visit family in the area. They thought that as this hotel was just across the park from them it would be handy. From the outside the hotel doesn't look too bad but on arrival into the hall way you start to feel a little uneasy. I'm sad to say the decor is incredibly dated, the carpets very tired and paintwork could do with a freshen up although I really don't think this would make a lot of difference as a whole new referb is needed. We were given what looks like a front door key to our room and opening the door we felt like turning straight back around and leaving. As we had paid by visa card we felt it was too late to ask for our money back and would just have to put up with this place for the night. We had originally said to reception that we would maybe staying for two nights but the thought filled us with dread. My boyfriend was so unhappy with the situation that following a night out in the lovely town or Reading it was a bit of a challenge to get him to go back to our room at all. I feel quite bad to report all of this as the staff were really quite nice, they just need some health and hygiene lessons as the cleanliness was next to non exsistent.......the net curtains at the window were torn, the bed had u rolling into the middle as I guess the mattress was old, I didn't dare look any further. We had to leave the next morning and check into an amazingly lovely hotel a short distance away which was exactly the same price! I would say like everyone else = look elsewhere.........

"There isnt a Zero rating LOW enough for this HOVEL"

2.0

I cannot start to tell you about the squawler this hotel has.....after a 5 hour drive, all me and my mum wanted was to have a drink and relax. Literally dumping our bags in our rooms and heading for a drink at the bar (which left one heck of a lot to be desired) but the local pubs were not of our liking. we waited for a local indian restaurant to open and went for a really lovel meal and a few more drinks before heading back to the Tower House ('house of hell' would be a more apt name). I got to my room and could not believe the FILTH....it was disgusting, plaster falling off the wall, damp, filthy dirty and the bathroom left you with the feeling that you would have stayed cleaner if you HADN'T used it! thick layers of dust everywhere and I bed that I just refused to sleep in ( I slept fully clothed, wrapped in by trench coat - there was no way on earth I was getting under those sheets). As soon as the sun was up, I knocked at my mothers room door and informed her we would NOT be stopping in that place one more second, instructing her to pack. On reaching the down stairs, we were met by an elderly man, nose dripping and hacking the worst cough into an old rag 'Breakfast for two' he asked...'No thank you' we will not be staying for a second night as booked' We left and could do nothing other than chuckle at the flea pit my MOTHER had booked. We spent the second night at the Hilton in Reading (near Majeski stadium) which was beautiful and food really good. Suffice to say, the owner of the Tower House has refused a refund for the second night although I will give them one last opportunity to make the refund before taking things a lot lot further than a simple complaint on Trip Advisor! Refund the money before every kind of environmental and health inspector reigns down on your hostel!

"Fawlty Towers!!!!!! Should be closed down!!"

2.0

This is the worst Hotel imaginable. We arrived and were served by an elderly man who appeared to be drunk! When we got to the room it was disgusting, a sink was in the room that had mould everywhere. A seperate room had a toilet and a shower that again had mould everywhere and large damp spots all over the ceiling. I couldnt believe how bad it looked so decided to try to turn it on, only for the dial to come away from the wall and the slightest of trickles of water appeared. I wouldnt stay here again even if someone paid me.
