"Easy to book on late notice and nice staff, but needs a good clean"

6.0

Pros: I booked in here on very late at night as my other accommodation nearby was flooded, so I was glad I could get somewhere to sleep for the night. I stayed for 5 nights, although planned to stay for longer, and was in my room for most of the time when not out. It's in a fairly convenient location with a bus stop opposite. Staff were accommodating and happy to take my soaking washing and get it cleaned, which was £10 per load. Very friendly guys. It was only £40-£45 per night. Cons: I did have to pay for the lot up-front, and claim back what I didn't use afterwards. The rooms are not the greatest - it's all dated and old and worn and not the cleanest place I've ever stayed. While I did get to sleep eventually, after there was some noise (and you can hear people going up and down the stairs quite loudly), it was mostly comfortable and just for convenience. The bathroom has carpet rather than lino so can be a bit weird. The bathroom clearly needed a clean and sink was slightly grubby. Overall for the price I think it's okay, but I have stayed in cleaner and more up-to-date and modern hostels for cheaper than this before, but at short notice and an okay rate, I was glad to at least have a bed.

"Nice ppl working but smelly and filthy, paper thin walls, could not sleep"

4.0

Smelly and dirty place, nice ppl working there but walls and carpet stained and old. People smoking in the rooms all possible stuff, paper thin walls, it was noisy till 2am, could hear TV, laughing, sex and loud snorring. Very firm bed, sheets were old but clean, nice breakfast in a dirty place. Couldn't sleep but good price .

"chepest hotel in Reading"

6.0

This was the chepest hotel in Reading. Nice breakfast with very limited options. Reading being the very costly town we got this hotel with 30 bucks a day as we were 11 . Good for people who came to reading for work and want a place to sleep and have breakfast. Nice surroundings with a big gardon and beautiful place in front of the hotel. If you wany to go to Towncentre and if you willing to walk then 20 min walk or get in to Reading bus to go to towncentre.

"70's revisited"

6.0

This is well-known hotel by contractors working or visiting the area, looking for somewhere cheap that serves an early breakfast at 6-00am, an evening meal and a few beers. The décor remains as it was in 1975 and so does the menu. You guess this when you walk through the door. It may be aging but it is not dirty. The kitchen door remains open at all times so you can see the old ladies cooking away as they have done for decades except this is a modern stainless steel kitchen. I had a single room with an en-suite shower, sink, and tv. It was clean & comfortable. The bathroom across the hall featured a burgundy plastic bath straight out of B&Q's 1979 catalogue. Hilarious. Cheema, the guy who runs it with his family knows what us guys want and we get it, no fuss. It's a relic from a bygone day for contractors and I liked it.

"Utter,utter filth "

2.0

This place is just awful, the bed made more noise than a brass band, the room was filthy, the toilet looked like it had never been clean and I was too afraid to have a shower. How this place is still in business is really beyond me.

"you get what you pay for"

6.0

this was booked for some friends to stay while they were visiting us. The hotel has good off road parking and more importantly a bar! when I went in to enquire about a room, the manager was very helpful and accommodating. The rooms are a bit grubby in need of a lick of paint as well as a good clean, it looks as though the room hasn't been cleaned in months and is stuck in a timewarp! But the sheets were clean and my friends tell me that the bed was comfortable. Having read some of the other reviews I feel they are a bit harsh. I cannot comment on the breakfast but the staff at the bar whilst I was waiting for my friends were very friendly and I think at the end of the day it might not be the cleanest of hotels but definitely good value for money and a great location for getting into town and the university.

"Not fit for sewer rat!!!"

2.0

When I pulled up on the car park I wasn't impressed with the look of the outside of the building, but you can't judge a book by its cover so I went in to see my room. The receptionist gave me my room key and directed me to my room, it soon went down hill from there. When I opened the door to my room I was greeted with the smell of dirt, I put my bag on the bed so I could check the room out. There is dirt in every place, it looks like it has never seen a Hoover or a duster. After I had looked around at how disgusting it was and looking at reviews online, I decided to go to reception and make a complaint. The guy on reception ask me the problem, then he gave me the keys to two other rooms which were in exactly the same state. So I took the keys back to him and told him they are disgusting and I wouldn't let a sewer rat stay in here, the only thing he could do was offer me a couple of free drinks in the bar. You would have to be insane to want to spend a night in here!!

"I'm a cockroach - get me out of here"

2.0

Arrived on a rainy Tuesday evening about 8.30 pm. As soon as I entered the building I knew I had made a mistake. Was shown to my room on the top floor which had no light bulb in. Man went to get light bulb (but would have been better to stay in the dark). When he returned, I told him I could not close the window - he tried and could not either!! I was asked to come down and sign and pay for the room and met another man (I think the manager) who was very friendly. I asked whether we could get a hot chocolate before bed and he said there were some shops up the road (I really hoped I could get one from his kitchen). The shower didn't work so attempted to have a bath - the water ran so slowly that after 20 minutes, there was approximately 3 inches which I had to do the best I could with. The location is quiet and the manager helpful. Could not comment on breakfast as I was so shocked at how filthy the eating area was, I could not stomach eating anything. Overall, this is a very tired, badly maintained, very dirty establishment and, to be honest, I cannot believe Public Health have not closed it down. The only good side - it cost £50 per night and, if you are visiting the University, it is very close and not far from Reading town.

"working trip"

2.0

Very dated hotel. Staff pleasant though I paid for the room before i had seen it. Staff carried my case to my room. he opened the door without turning the light on, i turned it on myself. Very dated Avocado bathroom suite with watermarks on the bath taps. Hair in the plug hole. I wont tell you about the toilet... only it did not flush.(fixed it myself). Furniture well out dated. Cracks in the wall. Bedding well though one mark on the undersheet. Me being the only female in the building did not sleep well. Breakfast I chose to have just cornflakes & a pot of tea. £35 for single ensuite.
