Golden Town Hotel

The family here are amazing and make you feel so welcome! The nicest family we have met on our travels. They make you feel so at home. It was the best breakfast we have had so far in Sri Lanka - included a big meal, juice and tea. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. Little luna, their dog, is so friendly too and loved a belly tickle. The location is great as you can walk 5 minutes and be at the main beach where there are lots of restaurants and bars.

The owner was very friendly and helpful, spending time with us during dinner. Breakfast was homemade by her and delicious. The room was large with plenty of daylight and had a fully equipped bathroom. Only 2 minutes walk to the beach and within walking distance of the bus station.

One of our favourite stays in Sri Lanka. We felt immediately welcomed by the wonderful hosts and were delighted with the room and space. The breakfast was fantastic and very comfy/ clean facilities. Great location too, we even decided to stay a 2nd night.

Wi-Fi didn’t work well for us but it wasn’t a huge issue.

I highly recommend staying at the Golden Town Hotel. The owners are incredibly helpful and courteous. They organized transportation for us, both for local sightseeing in a tuk-tuk to admire the turtles and for a trip to Udawalawe Park, as well as providing a guide for the park. They even arranged small details like a power adapter. Every morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast, which we could schedule at our preferred time. On the day of our park visit, instead of breakfast, they provided a packed meal, and the owners woke up at 4 in the morning to see us off. Additionally, the owners run a convenience store, so if you need water or any other products, they are readily available, and you can trust that you won't be overcharged. They also have a restaurant on-site, offering the convenience of purchasing meals right at the hotel. A valuable note for us was that from the hotel, we went directly to Udawalawe Park, where the owner personally drove us. From the park, we continued our journey to Ella in different transportation. This meant we didn't have to waste time during our stay in Tangalle, allowing us to make the transfer seamlessly. While you can take buses from Tangalle to Ella, be prepared for one or two transfers, with Wellawaya being a definite stop. Additionally, in Sri Lanka, you can use the PickMe app, similar to Uber. To get to Tangalle from Colombo, we opted for private transportation, negotiating a lower price after being approached at the airport. We managed to bring the initial quote down by 70%.

Host was absolutely lovely. Very friendly and made sure you were comfortable. All you could ask for at this price point. Breakfast was exceptional value and they have a cute dog. Location also good

- The host (Namali) was so friendly and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us. She offered us tea when we arrived in the evening and said if we needed anything to message her. - Breakfast was delicious, reasonably priced and the portion was big. - We also had a salad and asked for chicken and eggs to be added which wasn’t a problem for Namali. - Location is good with the beach not too far. - A good gym 5 minutes walk away for only 500LKR for a day pass.

- WiFi worked but sometimes it was best to use 4G instead

Lovely lady Namali who runs the place is very warm and friendly. Great location near the town and the beaches. Big room, big bed and big bathroom. Great food.

We had such a great stay, it would have been impossible to have been made more welcome - I don’t think I’ve ever met as warm and friendly a host as Namili! The room was large with a huge bed, and the location is great, just a very short walk to the bus station and also a short walk to the beach. The breakfast in the morning was lovely and filling and we really enjoyed the fruit juice! We also took their reasonably priced tuk tuk transport to the rock temple which was definitely worth it - there were only a handful of people there and it was nice to drive through the countryside. We would definitely stay here again if we went back to Tangalle! Tangalle is quiet at the moment with not many tourists around and so the vibe was definitely a welcome change after Unawatuna/Weligama - would definitely recommend a visit!
