Utopia Eco Hotel

Es ist wirklich toll dort. Es war fast alles perfekt. Tolles Essen, tolle Gastgeber und einfach eine tolle Unterkunft. Das gemeinsame Abendbrot ist ein Highlight und die Lage toll.

Als wir da waren, waren die kältesten Tage seit Ewigkeiten im Februar. Da es keine Fenster gab, wurde es mit 12 Grad draußen sehr frisch.

Fantastische plek! De locatie is werkelijk fenomenaal, midden in de jungle, wakker worden met het geluid van vogels. Personeel bestaat uit lokale medewerkers met vrijwilligers en zijn allemaal super aardig en behulpzaam, je voelt je er meteen thuis. Wij waren met 2 kinderen van 9 en 11 en vonden het ook fantastisch. De tour naar Chemuc Champey en de grotten is super en de gidsen doen het erg leuk. Eten (ben zelf geen vegetariër) was heerlijk!

Eigenlijk niets. Behalve dat je je wel moet instellen op iets minder comfort. Veel insecten, vroeg naar bed en vroeg wakker. Echter alles de moeite om hier te verblijven.

Beautiful location, next to the water, close to semuc

When we arrived in our room, there were termites (?) in the sink. Also we encountered multiple cockroaches. My boyfriend went back to the reception with a picture of the sink and came back with a new key. At the reception they said the picture looked like termites and the cockroaches were probably because of that. When we went to the second cabin, there were also multiple cockroaches, no termites though (:. Note: nobody came with us to the next room or to check the other room. When my boyfriend went back up again to the reception, it was closed and there was no staff around. I understand that it’s located in the jungle and that there could be insects, but the way they handled it was not how I would treat guests. The next morning we went to the reception and said that we wanted to check out early. They did not even ask why… We planned to stay 3 nights and had to pay in cash. When we asked if we had to pay the full amount, he said something weird about booking.com costs. I know it’s a non-refundable room, but there are more places where I stayed shorter than originally planned, and I never had to pay the full amount. This is not the worst, it was our choice to leave, but it again shows that they do not care. Besides the cockroaches, the room/cabin was very dirty and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for days/weeks.

Świetne miejsce dla osób szukających klimatu blisko natury i z dala od miasta. Obiekt jest położony na uboczu - do Semuc Champey ok. 15 minut tuktukiem, do Lanquín ok. 30 minut. W okolicy nie ma sklepów, więc warto przygotować się na korzystanie z oferty hotelu i związane z tym dodatkowe wydatki, albo zaopatrzyć się wcześniej. Na miejscu organizowane są wspólne posiłki oraz różne atrakcje, co sprzyja integracji i tworzy bardzo fajną atmosferę. Korzystaliśmy z tubingu rzeką - świetne doświadczenie, zdecydowanie polecamy! Mieliśmy River Front Cabin. Pokoje są bardzo „naturalne” - zamiast szyb są podwójne siatki, prysznic znajduje się na zewnątrz pod chmurką, a toaleta w pokoju ma otwarty dach, co oznacza dość ograniczoną prywatność (wszyscy w pokoju wiedzą, co się dzieje 😉). Dla większego komfortu zaczęliśmy korzystać z toalet w części wspólnej. Ogromnym plusem są jedzenie - rewelacyjne, w pełni wegańskie posiłki, które smakowały nawet mięsożercom. Szczególnie polecamy choco banana! Podczas jednego dnia (po ulewach) nie było prądu. Na szczęście miejsce sprzyja zwolnieniu tempa - można poczytać książkę, poleżeć w hamaku albo pograć w gry planszowe. Podsumowując: niesamowity klimat i doświadczenie blisko natury, ale trzeba być gotowym na prostsze warunki i pewne niedogodności.

The view is INSANE! Sitting in the dining area in the mornings and evenings is such a treat. It’s absolute magic. We met some really lovely people whilst staying at the hotel and it made our experience! We also LOVED the Semuc Champey tour and tubing (shout out to Ronaldo)!!

My partner and I have both been ill for a week since leaving Utopia and we think this is down to hygiene. Of course you are in the jungle so expectations must be managed but there were cockroaches all over our room (particularly in our bathroom on towels, etc.), toilets didn’t flush properly, bins with toilet roll were not emptied in the 3 days we stayed at the hotel.
