Beaumont Hotel and Holiday Park

This place is literally in the middle of nowhere, on State Highway 8, between the larger areas of Roxburgh and Lawrence. It is the only place there, with nothing else around it. With the lack of light pollution, it's ideal for stargazers. The view surrounding the place is stunning, too - it would be a great place to camp during the Summer. The outside cabins are a good design with adequate heating and ventilation. Note, no bedding (i.e. blankets) or towel is provided. The cabins are about 30m outside the back of the hotel building. In between is a building containing separate male and female toilets and showering facilities, kitchen, and laundry. There's plenty of parking right outside the cabins. The bed and pillows were comfortable. A TV is provided with various channels available. Heating is good meaning you would have no problem in the middle of Winter (well, at least until you had to step outside to go to the bathroom!). I had a steak dinner inside the restaurant, which was adequate.

The big negative was that I was unaware of exactly what type of room I had booked before I actually turned up: I had thought I had booked a room in the hotel, and did not realise that I was outside in a cabin until arrival. Now, this is largely my fault as the email sent from Booking.com clearly stated this, however, while actually booking, this was not overt. Now, the cabins are very nice and I had no problem staying in one. However, the lack of linen provided an issue. Booking.com states you can rent this from $30, however, I was told this would be $50 at the desk. Either way, this is rather extortionate for use of a blanket and towel. Thankfully, the heating is good enough so that you can just turn that up. Note, the lack of towel as standard is rather poor and this lack is not clear from either Booking.com or it's emails (they mention linen, which suggested bedding only). The price of $70 for one night also seemed rather high for shared bathroom facilities; however, this was the cheapest on the route between Wanaka and Dunedin for the date.

The place was quiet and very clean and comfortable. We didn't expect to have such a comfortable stay and the cost was very reasonable with all the mod cons. We arrived quite late and the people in the bar were very helpful so we couldn't have asked for more.

The place was as advertised so there wasn't anything to complain about.

The breakfast set us up for the day. Thank you to the cook who was very attentive. The portion was abundant.

As we were setting out to bike the Clutha Gold Extension we would have appreciated an earlier breakfast - eg 7:30 or 8:am. We understand that the cook/builder had worked until 10 pm.

Great 'old pub' with all the best vibes. Exceptional food and very attentive staff. All you need for a comfortable stay.
