Lion's Rest

Amazing staff! They were polite and super helpful with recommendations and suggestions during our stay. The accommodation is great, so close to the beach, clean pool, clean bedrooms with warm showers

We had an amazing stay here. The rooms are very well equipped with AC, comfy beds and great shower. The swimming pool offers a great way to relax while enjoying sea views. And the best, the staff; they were super friendly with a great attention to detail and helping us with everything. I highly recommend this place. Its location is also great as its a bit outside the messy city centre of welligama but very easy to reach in tuk tuk, mororbike or car; it will take you less than 15 minutes:)

We had a warm welcome by Ayesh. The room was spacious and clean. Our kids enjoyed the pool, playing area and the beach. Great to have this all so close. Although we were there during low season, they did everything possible to make it to an enjoyable stay.

Prices were steep compared to the rest of Sri Lanka. The food could be better to what you expect of the level of this hotel.

Ayesh und sein Team haben unseren Aufenthalt wirklich perfekt gemacht. Sie standen uns bei allen Fragen jederzeit hilfsbereit zur Seite und haben uns großartig beraten. Auch der Nachtwächter ist ein unglaublich freundlicher Mensch, der uns in Erinnerung bleiben wird. Wir verbrachten wundervolle Tage im Lion’s Rest und können jedem nur empfehlen, das Frühstück gleich mitzubuchen – so startet man jeden Morgen mit einem köstlichen Genuss in den Tag. Alles im Haus ist sehr sauber und gepflegt, und das WLAN ist schlicht unschlagbar (absolut konstant ~130 + MBits.) Als besonderes Extra erhielten wir sogar ein Upgrade und durften das obere Zimmer mit Meerblick genießen – ein absoluter Traum! Beim nächsten Besuch werden wir dieses Zimmer direkt buchen, weil es einfach wunderschön ist.

Heerlijke plek voor een eerste stop. Wij waren in laag seizoen en daardoor hadden we alles voor onszelf. Eten is ok maar je echt goed restaurant op 100 meter. In laagseizoen gebeurt wel alles in Welligama stad. Kortom, wij raden dit aan.

Het warme welkom van de manager. Super aardig, behulpzaam en lief. Geeft uitkeg over faciliteiten en mogelijkheden zoals bijvoorbeeld een massage van de huismasseur. Kun je ook van te voren aanvragen, manager neemt via whatsapp ruim voordat je aankomt contact op. Let op, er is een mannelijke masseur voor uitsluitend mannen en een vrouwelijke masseuse voor uitsluitend vrouwen. Je kunt in het restaurantje alles krijgen tussen bepaalde tijden (ontbijt, lunch, diner) en de hele dag door koud water tappen.

Misschien de ligging. Wij waren er in augustus en dan zijn de golven bij dat strandje te gevaarlijk. Je moet best even in de tuk tuk om naar een surfstrandje te gaan. Maar tuk tuks staan voor de deur, alles zo geregeld.

We really enjoyed our stay at Lion's rest. The room was so spacious, the hotel was clean and beautiful but at the end what makes the experience memorable is the kindness and the helpfulness of the people who work there. We received tips and hidden gems where to go, didn't order dinner upfront (low season) but were still able to get dinner spontaniously, no problem at all. The people working there really doing the extra effort.

Since we were here in July, which is low season, you are not able to access the sea in front of the hotel. You are able to access the beach, but the sea is rough. This is not something to dislike, but you might want to know if you are going to book this amazing place. (There are pool clubs nearby where you can go for a swim / surf in the sea, just a little drive away.)
