Hotel Finlanka

Chandima, Sanjeewa, and Lahiru are among the nicest hosts we’ve had in Sri Lanka! If you’re traveling on a budget, this place is an excellent choice—you won’t regret it. The guesthouse is centrally located, just seconds from the beach, town shops, and restaurants. We were especially impressed by the generous breakfast and the beautifully presented food. Our room exceeded expectations for the price, featuring a lovely private en-suite bathroom. Though we didn’t use the pool, we wish we had—it’s stunning, surrounded by lush green gardens that add to the charm of the property. Highly recommended!

The only concern to note is that the train passes very close to the building, which might be a bit noisy for light sleepers. However, the genuine kindness and warmth of the owners more than make up for it! Highly recommended!

Really friendly family, big and cosy room with nice balcony, hot shower and comfortable bed. Very good breakfast with a lot of different options. Just a few meters from the beach in a quiet area.

The breakfast and the pool.

The location is right next to a train line. Expect a few trains per night with horns. This is very loud so earplugs don’t help much. I appreciate this isn’t the hotels fault but wish i knew beforehand. Staff didn’t speak much english.

Best hotel in Hikkaduwa and one of the best I ever stayed. Very clean, very comfortable, very friendly and amazing management and staff! Outstanding breakfast! Will be definitely back on my next visit in the area.

The hotel left an unforgettable impression! The reception was very warm and welcoming, making me feel at home right away. The room was spacious and comfortable, and I especially loved the wide and cozy bed, which ensured a good night’s sleep. There was always hot water, and the cleanliness throughout the hotel was impeccable. The breakfast was truly delicious and abundant. There are plenty of lovely dining options nearby where you can explore local flavors. In the evenings, the hotel garden and pool are decorated with colorful lights, making swimming especially romantic. Turtle Beach is within walking distance, making the location perfect for enjoying the beach and exploring the surroundings. I couldn’t wish for anything better and would gladly return any time.

There is a railway nearby, and the noise of passing trains can be heard in the room.

Excellent breakfast. Diverse with a good selection of sri lankan dishes, fruits and cakes/desserts. Refreshing welcome drink on arrival. Very accommodating and friendly staff. They will do anything they can to improve your stay.

Light shower water pressure. The bathroom is a wet room with a drain by the shower, but most of the floor gets wet too. The door doesn’t lock properly so we kept it closed using a mop/sweeper. There were a lot of mosquitoes in the room and the mosquito net had a hole in it. Wish they had a mosquito repellent instead.

The staff were amazing. The room was large and comfortable and had everything we needed. The breakfast buffet was enough food and variety to feed an army. Sri Lankan or European breakfast options available. There was a very peaceful vibe to the place.

There were a few ants. But they didn't really bother me

We arrived with our 8-month-old baby and felt incredibly comfortable at the Hotel Finlanka from the very beginning. The rooms are very nicely furnished and the entire complex and the detailed garden are very well looked after with great attention to detail and a lot of emphasis on cleanliness and a well-kept appearance! The pool is also cleaned every day and exceeds our expectations! But above all, the great hospitality made our stay more than perfect! The host of the house (who is also a carpenter) built a really beautiful baby high chair for our son. And the hole family ist so friendly and absolut lovely any time. The completely homemade and very big and extensive breakfast was a real highlight! I can only warmly recommend this accommodation to everyone and for the services you receive, the accommodation is worth every cent! (and in my opinion too cheap for the performance you get) Always happy to come back and highly recommended!
