Houndgate Townhouse

We just needed a lovely relaxing quiet evening to unwind and chill. Hense a Tuesday. We were given absolute caring attention from the Moment we came to the Bar. The two Young ladies on duty were both fantastic and know the Menu and Ingredienzen of dishes automatically. Amazing!! The Food: We’ll no other comment needed but absolutely amazing. Flavour. Präsentation and cooked to perfection. Next time we‘re staying over, that’s a must. Well done and thank you all for such a memorable evening.🙏🙏💖🥂🥂

Very central location, no car park, but multi story 5 mins walk & under £10 for over 24 hrs Breakfast & staff were great, all very professionally done. Room was immaculate.

We had our wedding reception here a year ago and the staff made us feel remembered and welcome. Whilst staying here we ate at the restaurant and they really looked after us and were so lovely. The staff are excellent and the food is exceptional. The room itself was beautiful and the bed was really comfortable. The breakfast that was included was also very good. They’ve always been consistently brilliant and I can’t recommend the hotel enough.

Really nicely decorated rooms, lovely and clean and the bed was really comfy! The breakfast was delicious, with a really large selection of options and cooked to perfection.

No aircon, but a decent fan provided.

The Houndgate Townhouse Hotel is a gem. We have just returned from our second stay in this wonderful hotel. 1) The rooms are comfortable, and well appointed. Our room [one] had a spacious bathroom. We did not mind that our room looked out upon a multistorey carpark. We heard no noise from that building, which is partially screened by some delightful birch trees. 2) The breakfast menu lists a wide-ranging choice. 3) The Saltfish restaurant is superb. 4) The staff are great ... always happy to help. They are professional and genuinely friendly. Everyone seems to know what they are doing. 5) The hotel is situated in a quiet street a few yards away from the market square. The railway station is just a 15 minute walk away. 6) Darlington is a lovely town, and is just a short bus ride away from Richmond, Barnard Castle, and Bishop Auckland [ideal for its faith museum, the Spanish Gallery, and the bishop's palace and gardens].
