Raalmadu Wilpattu

The best part was definitely the kind manager Kuma Malawana 10/10 service and customer orientation. The welcoming in the evening with their jeep to take us the last 5km in the facility was super nice and we even spotted an elefant family. The private room was very roomy and looked as the pictures indicate. The food was very tasty and well presented, although always served cold which was a slight bummer.

The pools (the other room also, as we chatted with the couple) were dirty unfortunately and not very inviting due to the amount of cement dust of the construction site next to us, which is a huge bummer concerning the absence of other swimming opportunities. The filters were definitely not turned on. The white bed sheets had a lot of stains on them. The shower pressure was definitely not enough to wash long hair. Be also prepared for quite a lot of insects entering your room. This is to be expected, as you are IN THE NATURE and the experience is delivered, so this is not a real minus. But be also prepared to find rat faeces in the bathroom in the morning which was not there yet the evening before.

We hebben een onwijs fijn verblijf gehad. Een prachtige omgeving en unieke belevenis aan de rand van het Wilpattu Park. Kamu was een geweldige gastheer en heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ons niks tekort kwam. De rest van de staff was ook erg behulpzaam. De accommodatie, de maaltijden en activiteiten (safari) waren perfect verzorgd. Zeker aan te raden!

Absolutely perfect! Our stay was wonderful and everything was organized to perfection. Our host, Kuma, spoke fluent English and went above and beyond to arrange everything for us. The food was delicious, and the safari was organized down to the finest detail. After a good night’s sleep, we woke up to the sight of monkeys right outside our window! In the evening, Kuma even showed us the crocodiles by the lake. To top it all off Kuma brought us to the local city because we had issues with transportation. Truly an unforgettable experience — 10/10!

Nothing - everything was perfect.

Great remote and peaceful location with wildlife coming into the property at night (if you are lucky). Our room was very clean and comfortable. Kuma and the rest of the staff were very helpful in arranging our safari, travel logistics and food throughout our stay. They went out their way to make our time memorable. Highly recommended!

Be mindful that the location is remote; you will likely need to opt for on-resort food and there is no WiFi

Our stay at Ralmadu Wilpattu Resort was very pleasant. The staff arranged an excellent full-day safari for us, and the property’s location right at the border of Wilpattu National Park made the experience truly unique. The rooms were fine. Unfortunately, there is a loud construction site right next to the hotel, which woke us up early in the morning and made it difficult to fully enjoy the surroundings. We regret that this was not mentioned in the property description. A special mention goes to the manager – an outstanding, helpful, friendly, and open-minded person who assisted us with everything we needed. A real highlight is the river jetty, perfect for relaxing and watching crocodiles. In the evenings, we enjoyed the incredible sounds of the jungle – we even heard elephants. On walks, you can encounter monkeys and many bird species. The on-site restaurant serves delicious traditional Sri Lankan dishes. We ordered a special Sri Lankan feast for lunch, which was truly exceptional. As for improvements, we would suggest better maintenance of the private pool by the room – the water turned cloudy after just one day. We understand that keeping it crystal clear in these conditions might be challenging, but we would have expected it to be cleaner.

Everything about this place was amazing and unique. The hospitality was absolutely incredible. Kuma was an amazing host and took care of every detail.

The place exceeded our expectations as a place, very remote and beautiful. We wish we had stayed longer as can really feel and hear the nature around hearing the elephants. Take beautiful walks and it’s just great. They helped booked a safari for us which was amazing however make sure you arrive in plenty of time as we were late due to the last mile of the road towards the hotel and keep 2000 rupees for the Tuktuk if going on safari. A tip if driving, don’t follow Google maps directly the locals take the second turning when driving to the hotel on the dirt road, which looks longer but is way better. Or contact the hotel before you arrive. Has fridge, kettle coffee etc and mosquito net over all windows which is great. The free cold filtered water was a nice touch. Nice to see glass bottles also being used as normally plastic in Sri Lanka. The food was also great

A few tips based upon our experience. From the main road take a Tuktuk, as a major struggle for a car nearly impossible.

We stumbled upon Raalmadu Resort and ended up having the entire place to ourselves — a truly unexpected treat! The staff were incredibly kind and took the time to engage in lovely conversations while offering outstanding service. They genuinely went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Due to heavy rain, we had to take a detour to reach the national park entrance, but they made it easy — we simply got up earlier and took the scenic route. We arrived by tuk tuk, which was quite the bumpy adventure due to puddles and rough terrain, but totally doable and worth it. A big shout-out to the amazing staff — we had such a good time here. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay in the dorm room at Raalmadu! When we arrived, we immediately saw an elephant roaming at the edge of Wilpattu Park—what a magical welcome! Although the dorm is open, each bed has a very good mosquito net (klamboo), so we slept comfortably. The food at the property was okay. Since we were the only guests at the time, the meals were a bit different from the menu, but still fine. The manager was very engaged and even took us to the river at night to try and spot crocodiles. They also arranged a safari for us in Wilpattu Park. Please note: transportation to the park is not included, but they can organize a tuk-tuk for you. The jeep driver is supposed to speak English and guide you through the park, so it’s a good idea to confirm that in advance. Nevertheless, the safari was amazing—we saw a leopard, a bear, two crocodiles, apes, and many stunning birds. As we were the only guests, the manager kindly allowed us to use the pool from one of the private rooms, which was incredibly relaxing!
