Home from home. Always a warm Northern welcome with delicious food, great service, and a great night's sleep. At the foot of the Pennines with countryside nearby.

There are quite a few steps to get to the rooms, so you need to be agile enough to navigate them.

Beautiful and characterful room. Fantastic breakfast, especially the full English which had the best black pudding ever. The staff made our stay an absolute pleasure.

Staff were friendly and attentive, bed was super super comfy!

We booked the suite for the night. The room was really clean and tidy and loved the hidden bookshelf door to the bathroom. The staff are exceptional, nothing is too much for them. The food at the restaurant was fantastic as again were the staff. The breakfast was really good too. Will 100% recommend and stay again. Thank you to all the staff at The Rake

Staff were attentive and reacted well when we needed to change rooms (see below). Restaurant food (tapas) was excellent and well priced. Breakfast was a good choice. Location was perfect for us. Travelled by EV. There are rapid chargers 3 miles away in Rochdale.

Booked 'the suite'. Missed that this room only had a bath and no hand shower attachment - wouldn't have been able to wash our hair! Immediately changed to the ONLY room with a shower. Would have been a major issue if that room was not available. There are 20+ outside steps to the rooms. Not easy to carry luggage up and down and IMPOSSIBLE if you have mobility issues. We were there during autumn wet weather and some of the steps were slightly slippery. If untreated in winter they could be dangerous. Car parking in road side. When the restaurant was busy we had to park quite a way away and on a steep hillside.
