The White Horse

Location - excellent for touring around the Cotswolds - low cost, comfy and friendly place to rest your head. Tesco right next door which proved to be an excellent source for cheap breakfast option. Food - expensive but excellent quality and flavours (pony roast highly recommended - plentiful, flavoursome and good value) . The breakfast pancakes with eggs,bacon and maple syrup are excellent. Comfy bed - good sleep despite being on the main road - (bit noisy at times and the room and bed literally shook from the passing lorries but it didn't bother us at all...we just thought it was funny, it didn't spoil our sleep.) Good shower...reasonably powerful. Good, unintrusive service with everything replenished daily if we needed. Great to have a proper coffee machine in the room.

Disappointed to be told on Sunday arrival that there was no breakfast offered on Monday mornings when the boards and all advertising states breakfast available every day. Website stated breakfast available from 8am but when we turned up one morning at 8 for an early start, we were told that it is served from 8.30am and the website was wrong. We left to get away early and found alternative breakfast. Parking was available but not without some issues - was pot luck whether there was a space when we returned - nothing was reserved, but to be fair, when the car park was full one evening, the bar manager did get someone to move for us - so we were accommodated but this was just a bit of a pain to have to worry about. Hate the greenery in the bedroom toilet - makes it all feel very claustrophobic and dark. Lighting very poor in bathroom - very dim and yellow, need bright white light for make up, shaving etc. Sink is way too big for size of room and is a huge 'trough' rather than a bowl so the water does not drain properly. Way too big - a smaller bowl shape would have been more practical and allowed for easier movement within the bathroom. Biscuits on the hospitality tray would have been a welcome addition. Generally the decor throughout the pub is dark and dull. Tables in the dining area are 'sticky'. We had an evening meal on 'pie night' but hadn't realised it was pie night before ordering so only one of us had the pie. It would have been helpful if the waitress had pointed out the offer available when presenting the menus. The eating experience on that evening was not a pleasant one because all we could hear was loud voices and swearing from the other end of the bar - a group of 4/5 men - not the sort of environment we wanted when trying to enjoy a quiet meal together. Had we not ordered already, we would have left and eaten elsewhere.

The Bed was so comfortable! Bedding high quality. Lots of little touches that made it feel luxurious. The staff were excellent, welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was delicious.

Ideal location for my trip...attended a reunion party and so returned to the premises after midnight.. key card entry on back door and my room meant no delays getting to bed
