"An unbelievable location."

8.0

The location was five star. Breakfast was very good. Loved the sausages! DOG FRIENDLY…. Fabulous, and for us a deal-breaker.

Shower head “ fainted” constantly in use and showered the wall not me. Plug didn’t keep water in wash basin. Bed sagged in middle. ( Room 1)

"Dirty and expensive but the staff are nice!"

5.0

The staff were friendly and welcoming - they were the best thing about staying here. The breakfast was decent, with a lot of choices - plus the cereal is kept in a repurposed red telephone box, which is marvellous

We booked three rooms for one night for the extended family. Our room was extremely dirty - my husband dropped something under the bed and was horrified by the dirt and grime under there. Little things like the bed linen not being properly tucked in, and dog hair on the carpet and lime scale all over the shower don't make you feel very relaxed. The whole place felt quite tired and in need of some TLC. We all ate at the restaurant for lunch and my food - I had the fish and chips - was pretty good. But my husband had the burger and said it tasted funny. Sure enough, he was violently sick two hours later and it all came back up again. We paid £550 for the three rooms during low season, which was a total rip -off. The staff at the Priory and Castle decided not to open - not the hotel's fault - but made this an even more expensive error. Other travellers we met paid £600 for a week in a nearby cottage. We couldn't meet the three-day minimum stay or we'd have done the same.
