"Simple but good location and lots of wildlife."

8.0

Good location in easy walking distance of Santa Elena restaurants. Saw lots of animals in the grounds (monkeys, capybara, coati). Simple but comfortable rooms and a good shower.

Balcony is part of the shared walkway. Fine for us in the low season but in high season might not be comfortable to sit outside and have people walking past.

"Very good"

8.0

Good location to town centre, restaurants and not too far from the Cloud Forest or Selvatura. Nice 1km trial inside the property with some Agouti’s.

"Comfortable, convenient, friendly - WILL repeat!"

10.0

This was an amazing stay that was far better than we hoped for. We were in room 131 which was at the very top of the hill nestled in the woods with a fantastic balcony looking into nature where numerous birds stopped by and we also saw howler monkeys. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and hospitable and helped us by carrying our luggage up to the room and down again when it was time to leave. As far as the room, the beds were comfy, the shower was nice and hot with plenty of pressure, the space was ample, and the mini fridge was a nice bonus. When you stay at Jaguarundi you gain access to the Hotel Ficus (a sister property) for happy hour in the afternoons and breakfast in the mornings. Being at the top of the hill as we were, it was a matter of steps to both of these amenities, which were wonderful. The happy hour drinks were tasty and inexpensive and we also got a salad and some hummus as an early evening snack. We had some really great conversations with the staff and learned a lot about the property and the town from the local's perspective. Breakfast was equally good, including coffee, tea, juice, fruit, toast with jams/butter, sausage, gallo pinto, eggs, pancakes, plantains, and more. This hotel is close to town, allowing guests to walk to shops, restaurants, groceries, and other attractions. Check out the orchid garden and the Trapiche Coffee tour for sure. We will repeat on our next trip to Monteverde, as we stop in every single time we visit CR. Highly recommended with friendly and helpful staff and surrounded by nature.

The only suggested improvement would be better lighting in the bathroom/vanity area. Everything else was perfect.

"Lovely quick stay"

8.0

Lovely bathroom with sime free toiletries, bedroom too was overall great and views outside were lovely. We saw lots of animals from our very own window and could hear monkeys etc! The free breakfast was also outstanding at the neighbouring hotel. The staff were also helpful carring our luggage to the cabin.

Had to walk quite a bit to get to the hotel for breakfast and slightly up hill but the whole town was like that! Also the design of the cabin meant the rain falling sounded super loud and intensified, also wasn't that much space in the room and when we were stuck in there during the rain felt a bit of cabin fever. Wish there was a TV in there.

"Claims to be a hotel, but it’s a hostel!"

4.0

Other than the friendly staff, this place has nothing going for it!

We felt this place should be branded as a “hostel” rather than a “hotel” - we were told when checking in that we had been upgraded, I dread to think what our non upgraded room would have been like. - The bathroom was dirty, and needed some TLC. - The beds were so uncomfortable - The humidity in the room was awful and everything felt damp, this was probably due to a lack of air con. - Soap / Shower wash provided but in very limited quantities - Our balcony was dull, got no sunlight and felt depressing. Also missing a table. - the rooms were dark, and loud due to the materials the roof and walls were constructed out of. We decided to check out a day early, and move on as we really didn’t enjoy our stay here.

"Relaxing jungle retreat"

9.0

May depend on which lodge you get allocated. Luckily ours was at the top of the site (top as in very steep climb) but that meant it had brilliant views from balcony of the forest and wasn't overlooked by anyone else. Lying on the bed looking out the panoramic window straight into the forest with the sound and sight of birds, insects and monkeys first thing in the morning (5 am) was a wonderfulo start to the day. We went in low season (early May) so didn't have any neighbours in the adjoining cabin - be aware of reviews that say this is an issue due to lack of soundproofing. Staff were really helpful and there is 24 hour on site security. If you're planning a night tour book the one offered here - it is highly recommended (although I guess that might come down to the guide you get - ours was excellent) Bed really comfortable, best shower we had on our visit (stayed in 6 places). Decent breakfast provided at hotel next door. Located within easy walk (< 5 mins) from centre of Santa Elena so easy access to shops, bars, restaurants etc.

Chairs on balcony were too small and very uncomfortable. Had to use spare blankets for padding. Also a small table on balcony for drinks would be helpful - we had to use an upsiude down waste bin. It was the only place we stayed with no fridge. There is an obvious place to put one under the table next to the wardrobe, which is largely a dead space.

"Nice"

9.0

It was very nice. Although very close to the main road, you had the impression that you were in the middle of the jungle.

The ‘wall’ separating the two cabins were pretty small and you could hear everything. The choice of breakfast was relatively limited.

"Good"

7.0

The staff was super friendly and helpfull. There is a small hiking trail that is nice to do and there is some wildlife around. Beds were comfy and the shower was great.

We had a pretty dark room and also the balcony was on a rather dark side. Would have preferred for it all to be a little lighter as sometimes it felt kind of depressing and there was also not really another area where you could sit or tan.
