Nakatsugawa Onsen Hotel Hanasarasa

Dicht bij begin/ eind Nakasendo trail. Als gast mag je gebruik maken van de onsen naast het hotel. Gastvrije staf en wij hadden halfpension met zowel s’ochtends als s’avonds een eigen ‘eetkamer’. 11 gangen diner.

Bedden zijn niet heel groot, voor ons okay, maar voor 2 grotere mensen denk ik wat krap

Onsen is great and dinner delicious.

No western style breakfast

Great location. We did the Nakasendo trail from here and stayed only 2 nights. The shuttle bus from the hotel is great and also needed since the remote location. Breakfast and diner included (there is nothing around, so you must have this). Great traditional Japanese food.

The hotel needs a renovation and is outdated. You walk strait into the '80s. Lots of stuff is broken (lamps, fences, gardening). The riverside which is one of the great features of this location is not well accessible, it looks if no one goes there, there are no benches to sit and enjoy the view and it is completely dark at night. The Onsen is clean but old, and the outside part of it is small. There are massage seats and a sitting space in the basement near the Onsen, also outdated and broken. First night diner we had an unpleasant waitress, pace was way to high for the 9 course diner and she did not speak to us so no explanation of the food or how to eat it (since is is traditional Japanese and we where clearly western tourists). Second night we had an older lady and she did all her best in few English words to explain about the food and we had enough time to eat the dinner in a normal way. Our room should have had a shared bathroom, but did not. It was an in-room bathroom and toilet. This was one of the older '80s plastic very small bathrooms and the advertised amenities where not present. We rather had the shared option (which there was non on the entire 3rd floor) with much more room and comfort then this very small almost camper like experience. The room should accommodate 5 futons, but with 4 there was almost no space left for our luggage. Price / quality for this hotel is not great. We paid more then 500 euros per night for 4 persons (incl. breakfast and diner) for a very small outdated Japanese style room.
