Red Fox Lodge Myoko

We stayed at the Red Fox Lodge in Myoko for three fabulous nights. It was very comfortable for our family of 4, with adjoining rooms. We loved the authentic Japanese feel of the lodge. Very warm and Brendon, the host, was very kind and friendly and helped us get around town and recommended some delicious traditional restaurants. The boys were lucky enough to get some end of season snow to play in and build a snow man and we were able to do some beautiful treks through the village and up to the waterfall. It was very helpful to have an English speaking host, as he was able to tell us a lot about the history of the area and showed us rice paddies which are still operational after 600 years. There is a traditional Onsen a short 5 min walk around the corner which was well worth visiting too. We loved Myoko during the spring time. It was a peaceful change of pace to the big cities and gave us a chance to relax and enjoy walking in nature and looking at the many cherry blossoms that we in bloom with comfortable temperatures each day between 18-23 degrees. Well worth a visit. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Many thanks Brendon for your warm hospitality’s hospitality.

The staff was really relaxed and helpful, breakfast had some nice small touch like fresh strawberries, and the very warm drying room for skies and gear worked extra well.

Excellent location, being able to wake up, have breakfast and jump on the chairlift. Great facilities, cool hangout area, beers/food at the bar and friendly staff. Brendan is a legend! Would highly recommend 🤙

Very comfortable beds, super accommodating lodge with a perfect location to the slopes!

The ski lift was just outside. The snow was great. The lodge work well.

Hard to travel around without a car.

Before I get going - we have tested and stayed in lots of lodges in Japan. So please consider this an informed view. And independent - just in case you thought I am somehow connected with the owner. If you are looking to an immersive Japanese experience this is not for you. If you are looking for easy access to great snow and a comfortable relaxed stay - check this out. This lodge attracts clients who are considerate and informed citizens of the globe. The clients love the Japanese culture, love the snow and want to be in good shape each day to make the most of all it. A safe place for the kids to have some time and give the parents time to relax. So easy to find a quiet spot in the lodge and enjoy the company of other guests if you are looking for that. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the room and bedding, it as warm and cosy. The drying room and facilities ensure you are dry and ready to slip into to some dry warm gear. Niigata is regarded as one of THE best places for their snow. They were ready and willing to help us with our dietary restrictions - thanks! The shared areas are comfortable and quite large for the number of guests. Location, location, location! Right at your back door - yes RIGHT there is a chair to the gondola! AND when you are ready to return - you guessed it - you can ride to the back door. I love a quiet night’s sleep - every night I got just what I love. You are in a small Japanese town. If you want to explore - Recommended - you are strongly advised to hire a car (with snow tyres). There is a Pizza place within walking distance. The local public Olsen is worth the short walk to relax those muscles.
