The only highlight of this place is the property manager, Akila, a local Sri Lankan gentleman. He was kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming, delivering the warmth and positive experience we encountered everywhere else in Sri Lanka.

I have to say this has been the worst experience of our entire trip in Sri Lanka. The location of this property is extremely misleading. It was my mistake not to double-check the actual distance, but I did not expect it to be so far away from all the major attractions. We booked two rooms for two nights and were traveling with children. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing for kids to do here. This resulted in a very unpleasant experience for them, and they were extremely bored the entire time. The property is far from everything and highly inconvenient to reach or go anywhere from. The total price for this stay was over $1,000. For this amount, the value is simply not there. In Sri Lanka, this price range corresponds to truly top-tier luxury hotels, yet the amenities were shockingly low quality. For example, the shampoo and shower gel provided were very cheap, with a white liquid floating on top of green liquid, which felt unhygienic and completely unacceptable at this price point. After realizing the situation, I asked the host if it would be possible to cancel one night. The response was polite but felt very political and defensive. She reminded me that I had not specified kids in the booking, even though it was obvious from our arrival and the fact that we paid for 4 people. While technically courteous, her response emphasized rules and policies over empathy or practical solutions. She explained that one night could not be refunded due to Booking.com’s terms and conditions. While I understand the policy, it did not address the real issue or our discomfort. For a host with such high ratings, the lack of flexibility and genuine understanding was especially disappointing—particularly given how warm and kind the people of Sri Lanka generally are. Later, I learned that the host is not local, which may explain the difference in approach.

Ons verblijf in de villa was geweldig. Onze host Akila is waarschijnlijk de meest vriendelijke man in heel Sri Lanka. Hij helpt je bij alles en kan overal een extra woordje uitleg of hulp bieden. Hier word je behandeld als een koning. We waren op dat ogenblik de enige verblijvers dus hadden de hele villa voor onszelf. Door de afgelegen ligging in de bergen met een van de mooiste uitzichten, is ‘ultieme rust’ het codewoord voor ons verblijf hier. Wij reden van het verblijf naar The Grand Hotel voor een high tea ervaring (heel leuk), maar zijn hiervoor wel even onderweg geweest. Voor de theeliefhebbers en lokalere bezienswaardigheden alvast een paradijs. Voor uitstappen naar Nuwara Eliya, net iets te ver weg. De villa is niet modern maar geeft een koloniale indruk. Zo is het terras aan het zwembad aan wat vernieuwing toe, maar verder past alles wel in het plaatje. We verbleven in een perfect afgewerkte kamer en hebben heerlijk geslapen hier. Qua comfort ga je hier niets te kort komen. En ook aan Akila’s kookkunsten valt niets aan te merken. Wij hebben ongelooflijk genoten van ons verblijf hier en raden het zeker aan. Dit verblijf was een reiservaring op zich.

Alles klopt aan deze accommodatie. Prachtige locatie. Akila is de perfecte host, super gastvrij. We hebben een geweldige tijd gehad hier.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful hotel, and I cannot thank them enough for their incredible hospitality. From the moment I arrived, I felt respected and valued, allowing me to fully enjoy my time there. As someone on the autistic spectrum, I sometimes find it challenging to navigate certain environments, especially during celebrations. There was a small temple nearby that was ringing its bells, and I was concerned about the noise. However, the owner personally took the time to speak with them, ensuring a compassionate approach that made all the difference. I would like to extend a special thanks to akila , the butler, who was a true gentlemen throughout my stay. His attentiveness was remarkable; His dedication to ensuring my comfort made my experience all the more enjoyable. This hotel is an ideal retreat for anyone seeking disconnection from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The peaceful atmosphere and stunning nature trails provided a perfect backdrop for relaxation and mental health . The 16 km trek to the nearby waterfall in Ella was nothing short of breathtaking! I highly recommend this place to solo travelers and couples alike. It’s a romantic oasis with a lovely atmosphere and impeccable cleanliness, which is impressive given its natural surroundings. My room was spotless, and every detail was thoughtfully attended to.
