Belvedere Hotel

I felt very safe in this hidden away hotel. The reception staff were lovely - they're very adamant about advising guests not to go left out of the hotel as that leads to not a safe area. The room was clean and comfortable. Loved having the terrace area to sit on and look out over the city. A fantastic place for dinner nearby was QUANTUM restaurant, you must eat here! And also BREAD MAFAN for incredible breakfasts, coffees, and pastries. Plus, the foot massage place near Bread Mafan is bloody brilliant.

I can't say that there's anything I disliked. Maybe just the size of the keys/keyrings - they're HUGE and therefore take up a lot of space in a day bag/bum bag.

Beautiful hotel on a hill overlooking Tana. The terraces are brilliant for enjoying the sunset and the restaurant food was very good. The bathroom was good and the room was clean.

No mosquito net provided and there were a few that had got into the room, spray was provided though. The room size is a little small but sufficient for what we needed.

The staff were very friendly and very helpful. I wasn’t searching for a luxury, I needed a base point during my tour of the country and this served the purpose of placing my head and luggage for the night. They were able to secure my bags when I was away and the staff helped with a host of other things.

The streets leading to the hotel can be very overwhelming especially with the little children begging in the streets.

Actually, we stayed at Belvedere three times: before, after and between two parts of the tour. It is located in the centre, but at the end of quiet alley, right beside the Rainiharo mausoleum. From the terraces there are open great panoramas of the city. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable enough, with good shower. The only uncomfortable thing was pillow on bed. What was really good – bathroom lamp on generator, that is, light was available during nightly blackouts. Restaurant was very tolerable too, with good menu and opportunity to try Malagasy foods. Note, however, that at night there are lots of mosquitoes on the outdoor terraces.

Shower in spa, is a bit awkward
