Belvedere Hotel

Beautiful outside areas with lots of light and green spaces. The building was unusual but wonderful!

The rooms had less natural light than I would have liked.

Our reason for choosing this hotel was simply convenience. We had booked a group tour of the island and had planned to arrive in Antananarivo a day before the scheduled start of the tour, so it was convenient not to have to change hotels. We knew that the group tour would not be providing high end hotels so our expectations were not high but we took the wise step of reserving the top end studio accommodation - almost double the tariff for a standard double room but still modest cost. Our taxi driver from the airport was unfamiliar with the location of the hotel which was not a positive sign, nor was the inauspicious approach to the hotel! Entering the lobby was a relief - cozy but respectable. The front of house staff were friendly and were especially helpful in securing for us the same studio accommodation, with understandable supplementary payment, for the two group tour nights we would be staying there at the start and end of the tour. The terraces overlooking the city of 'Tana were a peaceful refuge for relaxing with early evening drinks. Because of the location of the hotel we did not venture out in the evening to search for restaurants but we did not need to - the hotel restaurant was above satisfactory. The staff were particularly charming and efficient and the food, including European and local options, was delicious. Breakfasts were simple but more than adequate and thankfully not buffet style! The fruit was attractively presented and delicious and the ubiquitous fallback option of omelette with cheese and other ingredients more than met our requirements.

The location of the hotel, in a less than salubrious neighbourhood, might be considered by some as a negative aspect but this is genuine Antananarivo and for anyone less than adventurous about venturing into the streets outside, there is no need to do so.

I've stayed here before and found it to be ideal. Great location, friendly and helpful staff with a pleasant dining area and terrace with city views . I would definitely stay again

Spent few nights there before and after my tour of Madagascar. Hotel is located in a busy part of the town on a hill, close to restaurants, bars and local shops. The hotel staff including front desk and restaurant workers were super friendly and nice. I was able to check in early to my room and enjoyed excellent lunch at the patio of the restaurant. I can only recommend the zebu steak as many before me did. The food was delicious and cheap.

The address given is wrong and the hotel is hard to find.
