Hotel Residencial Alentejana

A very traditional no frills little hotel. The house was elegant early 19th century, filled with beautiful fresh flowers and lovely period furniture. It felt like a step back in time. Great location, quiet and in walking distance to the town. We were given lovely biscuits for our onward trip. A nice touch.

Whilst the room has air-conditioning, a fridge would have been a bonus. And toiletries in refillable bottles would be preferable to sachets.

We had a wonderful stay here. The staff were exceptionally friendly and gave us great tips for exploring Coimbra. Our room was spacious, spotless and the bed was very comfortable- we loved the special touch of the elephant towel on the bed! The house has a unique and rustic charm which you don't find in other big hotel chains, and we loved it! There are good transport links to explore the city centre.

Elegant and old-world charm - the atmosphere of the Hotel Residencial Alentejana is beautiful, unique, welcoming. It´s so nice to stay somewhere that is not a franchise and doesn´t have IKEA furniture! This place is very Portuguese: stylish and traditional. Our room was enormous and had lots of dark wood furniture. The beds, doors, wardrobe were antique and in great condition, the floor was parquetry. We are a family of 3 and stayed in a room with a double bed and single. The location was perfect for us, we wanted to stay just outside of the old-town and near the botanic gardens.

I didn't like that I had to leave! I would have stayed for more days if possible. The cafe around the corner was open for breakfast and everything we ordered there was stale - wish we had eaten at the hotel instead.
