Elk Horn Lodge Motel and Cabins

Cooke City is ideally located for exploring the Lamar Valley area of Yellowstone. Elk Horn Lodge is an older style motel – it’s very clean with parking at the door. We found a couple of places to eat in the town during our 2 night stay.

The beds were very small. I assumed a double bed would be suitable for 2 persons, however it was small and uncomfortable. My husband and I slept in separate “double” beds on our 2nd night. I think we may have been unlucky with our neighbouring guests during our stay. While I understand that people are staying in this accommodation so that they can access Lamar Valley easily, we were awoken at 5am on our first morning with guests leaving the accommodation. They didn’t seem to be making any effort to be quiet as they prepared to leave and move their luggage down the stairs. Our 2nd night we could hear a loud TV from an adjoining room, and again at 6am the next morning. The hot water system from next door was also loud. While I understand that these issues are not necessarily the fault of the managers of the accommodation, future guests should be prepared to wear earplugs if sensitive to noise.

The shower was excellent. There was good water pressure which we are finding is not always the case these days. The property managers were very nice and intent on making us feel welcome,

I did not like the firm requirement of signing off on the inn policies before being accepted as a customer. The fan on the heater didn’t work, and the lights by the bed were too bright.

Everything we needed in a very remote and beautiful location. Staff could not have been more helpful. Room spacious and well kitted out.

A lot of information sent before visit that was helpful. However, it was sent several times and became confusing, as it took time to try and decipher if any new instructions had been included.

We loved its character and location and personal customer service.

Beds could have been firmer, but all in all, it was a great place to stay!
