AVISHA TOWN HOTEL

Absolutely nothing to like here.

There was no towel for a shower. I washed my feet with soap, and dried them on the hand towel. By the time I walked to the bed, my feet were filthy. I had to sweep dirt from the sheets. The food from the restaurant was inedible. A pizza, which took 50 minutes to arrive. I was able to eat 1 tiny piece on an empty stomach, and they still insisted on full payment. Unbelievable. The staff tried very hard to be hospitable, but lacked the skills and knowledge required to host. This hotel should be rated 2* at best.

Location for the airport is excellent. Walkable distance. A shuttle was provided by the hotel as our flight arrived at after midnight and we do not know the area, so were reluctant to walk at that time.

No water in bathroom. Staff said a pump needed to be activated and it would be fixed by the next morning. Water was on the next day but was only just lukewarm. Only one towel provided for two occupants, no hand towels, or bath mat. Another was provided upon request. Shower screen door does not close properly. Bathroom door handle broken, light above bathroom sink broken. Tea/ coffee making in room would have been good, but to be fair, very few places that we stayed in Rwanda/ Uganda have this. All relatively minor, but the place needs some maintenance.

It was close to the airport and they easily organised a taxi to meet us. Was also very cheap.

The hotel is right next to a bar, and there was loud music and loud talking until 4 am. We got zero sleep. Also the bathroom has a very strong sewage smell, and the toilet had trouble flushing. From 7 am there was continuous loud car honking, and music again began playing. So there was no chance for any peace or rest. Even for a quick rest after arrival in Kigali I would not recommend this hotel.

No hot water in the shower with no door. “Wait. I will repair.” (at 10 pm) Never happened but reviews from 1 & 2 years ago say same. No hot water. The issue never occurred to the receptionist. 1 towel for 2 people. Nice bedside lamp, cord wrapped around the base. Cord doesn’t reach the only plug. Receptionist says “Move the bedside table down to the middle of the bed so the cord reaches. “Where is the clicker for the TV?” “Oh, the TV doesn’t work.” said in amazement that I asked. Morning: “Please bring me some hot water.” ½ hour later 2 arrive with 100 degree C water. They clearly brought it to a full boil on the stove. They tried to serve. “Where is breakfast served?” “Yes”(with a sweet smile). “We would like coffee, not tea.” “Yes.” On third return to the room, “Do you want coffee with milk or without milk?” “One with, one without.” At the requested hour a lovely breakfast arrived on 6 plates. The room table fit 4. The issue never occurred to the server before? “Can I put both omelets on 1 plate?”

I liked the proximity to the airport, the spacious rooms, and the cleanliness of the rooms.

The beds were a bit firm, but that's a personal preference, not something against the hotel.
