Lala lodge Pemba Zanzibar

Breakfasts and dinners were very good, with generous portions. $10 for dinner was good value. It was nice to watch the harbour from the upper deck of the lodge, with all of the activity—ferries, fishing boats, etc. There was always hot water in the shower. The owner was very sociable and helpful in arranging drivers, the tour to Misali Island, etc. A real bonus for us was that the ferry dock (to get to/from Stone Town on the main Zanzibar island) is a short walk away.

It’s always hard to say what you didn’t like. This is a rustic/basic lodge that meets your needs without offering luxury. While there are many areas that need some attention, the owner is planning a big renovation soon, to make the lodge more of a destination.

This is a hidden gem of small village just a stone away from Mkoani ferry terminal. This lodge is a part of village scenery. You can see and listen how the people working, walking, and even singing! I enjoyed some communications with village people, they are very friendly and hospitable. I enjoy sunset time when dhows are going back in reddish shining water reflecting sunset. Night time is very quiet. This is as if home away home. Denis, the owner, is very friendly and helpful, knowing a lot about Pemba and Africa. His family and stuff have full of hospitality. They even prepared a breakfast box for my early departure in the morning. I highly recommend and hope to go back soon!

We loved our stay at Lala lodge. Beautiful, quiet spot - exactly what we wanted. Great food and lots of it. Super easy to arrange day trips and make plans. Dennis, the owner, made us feel right at home. Actually one of our favorite parts about staying here was dinner and conversations with Dennis and another guest there at the same time - it felt like we were staying with friends:)

There was No mirror and No soap. The bathroom was moist on the roof and some stains where visable.

Nice location, right in front of the sea, perfect for all the daily boat excursions organised directly with the host. Good prices and amazing food with fresh fish any day (we spent 4 nights there).

The room was a bit outdated, especially the bathroom.

Peaceful quiet location, do as much or as little as you want.

A couple of maintenance issues, but we were there in the rainy season so all part of the adventure.

Great location, right on the beach. The first floor terrace restaurant was lovely and the food was great. It offered good value for money and the boat trip was definitely worth doing, along with a trip to see the flying foxes! Brilliant!
